She usually bicycled to school, and she loved it, but later that night, she'd begged her father to let her take the bus, saying cycling all the way to school and back tired her. Her mother had refused right away, talking about staying active and fit, but her father couldn't deny his princess.

"It'll save my energy for academics, Ma. I'll be able to focus more on my studies. Papa, please." She had tried to pull off the puppy-dog eyes, even though she was sure she couldn't.

"But what about the fe–" her mother was cut off by her father.

"It's fine. If we want our daughter to succeed, we should make it easier for her, right?" He turned to her with a reassuring smile. "I'll call the admin tomorrow. You’ve got their number, na?"

"Yes, Papa," she smiled widely and hugged her father, "Thank you so much. I'll go to bed now. Good night." She left him to watch the movie that was playing. "Good night, Ma" she said, skipping up the stairs.

"Suno, why is so happy about taking the bus?" Her mother said to her father, sitting beside him.

"Aree you think too much. She is just happy that we agreed."

"You agreed. Meri toh koi sunta nhi hai iss ghar mein." ("nobody listens to me in this house.")

Her father just laughed, putting his arm around his sulking wife.

What she didn't know was that their stop would be the last one, meaning they were the last to get on the bus, leaving her with no choice but to sit next to him. She kept fidgeting with her hands, now regretting her plan. After a while, when she'd calmed down enough, she took out her copy of Harry Potter and dived into the wizarding world. Nothing worked better than that at commanding her full focus. She was back at Hogwarts...

... Until the bus hit a speed bump and his hand landed on her thigh.

On the bare skin just above her left knee, because the skirt had ridden up with the jump!

'Who knew buses were so violent' she thought to herself as he hastily removed his hand, apologising profusely. She closed her book with a loud thud; she was done for. She wouldn't be able to focus for the rest of the day.

On the way back, he had fallen asleep, worn out from the long school day. Quietly, he rested his head on her shoulder and quickly closed his eyes, hoping she wouldn’t notice.

She had thought about shrugging his head off, especially since it was making her feel weird. 'Maybe his stupidity is transferring into me through diffusion', she pondered.

But she let him rest. He looked too tired, and she didn't want to disturb him when he looked so peaceful. So, she sat there, gazing out the window for the rest of the bus ride.

When they neared their stop, she looked at him, about to wake him up. But she got momentarily distracted —his closed eyes, his long lashes shadowing his high cheekbones, his perfectly cute button nose, his pinkish lips stretched in a small smile. Her eyes lingered on the few strands of hair falling over his closed eyes, and her hand unconsciously lifted to brush them away.

As soon as her fingers brushed his hair, his eyes fluttered open. He'd been awake for a while, quitely pretending so he could savor the peacefulness. The bus was unusually quiet today, most of the kids fast asleep from exhaustion. He watched her as she withdrew her hand, red hues coloring her cheeks.

She cleared her throat, "We've almost arrived. I was about to poke your eyes out, since you were still asleep."

He chuckled, "We have arrived, Leo. Let's go." He stood up, stepping back to give her space to get off first. Flustered, that she hadn’t even noticed the bus had stopped, she quickly gathered her things and bolted down the aisle, racing all the way home.

"Slow down or you'll fall, Leo." He had shot from behind her, laughing at her flustered state.
