Everything was spinning. I didn't know what to think. Disgust, anger... I just couldn't describe the feelings.

"What a f*cked up family I have..." It was the first thing that came to my mind and fit the situation. I was disgusted with myself.

Kenma brushed a strand of hair out of my face. My heart was pounding in my throat.

"What am I supposed to do now?" I just didn't know how to continue. Running away wasn't an option, I had to do something. But what?

"Not you, us. You're not alone, kitten."

I leaned against him. Kenma put his arm around me.

"The most important thing is that we collect evidence. We have to find every little detail that confirms our suspicions. Without evidence, we can't do anything."

Oh Kuroo. How could such an innocent soul end up with a person like my sister?

We stayed sitting on the sofa like that for a while. Every now and then I felt Kenma's breath on my forehead, but otherwise we didn't move at all. We sank into our own thoughts in silence. After what felt like an eternity, Kenma sighed quietly. I looked up at him questioningly.

He looked at me. "And what are you going to do now in regard to your housing situation? I really don't want you to go back to that house." I tilted my head.

"I'll probably stay here with my cousins until the trial. It'll still take a while until I turn eighteen." The memories of last night came back and put an invisible burden on my shoulders. I didn't want to go back to that horror house either. No amount of money could take me back there...

-----

We talked for a while. No, we whispered for a while. Neither of us raised our voices. I enjoyed his presence and his quiet words that he murmured in my ear. His voice did wonders and I began to relax. After a while my cell phone rang, breaking the pleasant atmosphere. I reached for it and answered the call.

"Where are you, Izy?" Rose's rushed voice echoed through the cozy living room. She was panting loudly. In the background you could hear a train arriving.

"I'm at my cousins'."

Kenma stared at me and winked. I got goosebumps.

"The address is ***. The shop is called 'Miya's Excellent Onigiris'. We'll wait for you there."

I heard her take a deep breath.

"WE?"

Kenma started to grin. "Hi."

My best friend was silent for a moment, then she screamed.

"Omg, KENMA!" She made a strangled noise and then the call ended. I looked at the screen in disbelief. Kenma laughed loudly.

I wrinkled my nose. The first meeting between the two could become quite awkward. Knowing Rose, she would pull out my baby photos without hesitation and shove them under Kenma's nose. She was just unpredictable and messed up a lot when she was in fangirl mode. Kenma was still laughing hard. I gently tapped him.

"Stop laughing!"

He gasped. "Sorry kitty, but your best friend is quite funny." Well, no point in lying, what he said was true. She was funny.

I got up. "Come on, let's go downstairs. She shouldn't run directly into Osamu for now." I pulled Kenma to his feet.

He grabbed my hand and I let him. Even though I wasn't 100 percent sure which way this relationship was going, I knew that I needed him to be close to me. He was the one who pulled me out of the dark shadows, who gave me hope. I needed him. I wanted him. Everything else was unimportant for now.

------

Kenma and I made ourselves comfortable on the small corner bench by the window. I waved  Osamu, who was serving a customer. He smiled at us and then came over.

"Good morning Izu-chan. Kozume-san, nice to see you."

Kenma gave him a small bow. "Miya-san."

Osamu looked over to me with concern. "Did you sleep well?"

I shook my head. I immediately thought of the nightmares again. My body shook in horror. Kenma put his hand on my back and ran his finger down my spine. Warmth flooded through my body and I smiled gratefully at him. Hopefully this horror would end soon.

The door of the restaurant was pushed open and a redhead entered the shop. I recognized my best friend immediately.

"Rose." Her head whirled around and a bright smile appeared on her face.

"Izy!" She hurried through the room with quick steps before pushing the astonished Osamu out of the way and taking me in her arms. I clung to her. Her presence had a healing effect on me.

"Who are you?", Osamu asked.

Rose raised her head questioningly and looked in Osamu's direction. That's right, she didn't understand Japanese! I quickly cleared my throat.

"My cousin is asking who you are." The questioning expression on her face changed. I knew what was coming next.

"So you're my best friend's cousin..." She checked him out, not exactly inconspicuously. "Not bad!"

I closed my eyes. How embarrassing! "Rose, stop it."

She laughed. "Sorry. My name is Rose White. I'm Izumi's best friend and her soul mate."

Osamu looked at me with big question marks in his eyes, but Kenma beat me to it and repeated what Rose had just said, only in Japanese.

I looked at him in amazement. I didn't know he spoke English so well. Two seconds later, my face turned red. Oh God, I had often talked to Rose about him in his presence! Kenma translated a couple of sentences, then Osamu disappeared to take the other guests' orders.

Rose plopped down opposite us. The awkward first encounter between her and Kenma didn't happen. She smiled at him and indicated that she wanted to talk to him later, before looking at me sternly.

"What are you doing here and why aren't you at home? It's only ten in the morning. I was at your place, but no one opened the door and no one answered the phone."

Shit, I had completely forgotten to tell her about the incident. I quickly made up for it. Her face darkened with every sentence. She was angry.

"That asshole! People like him should rot in prison!"

I grabbed her hand. "They'll get what they deserve."

She looked at me questioningly. "What are you planning?"

Kenma spoke up. "There's a lot going wrong in this family. It's about time they get a taste of their own medicine."

Kenma looked at me questioningly. I nodded. Rose could be trusted. So he told her our suspicions about my sister. Her eyes got bigger with every word. I, on the other hand, slumped further and further. It hurt. A lot. It hurt so terribly to know what kind of family I came from. Rose slammed her fist on the table and a few people turned to us. She lowered her head apologetically, then turned back to us.

"We have to get these bastards. And I already know exactly how... But we need help for that."

I thought about it. What was she thinking? And who could we trust? Only a few people came into question... And where did we find these people? Right.

"Who's ready for the volleyball game?", I asked and two pairs of eyes watched me in confusion.
