The breeze sends shivers through the archer' body, even though he wears heavy leather to protect him from the harsh weather. The light rain hits the building with small taps. The weather might be nice for someone inside a warm cottage with a hot chocolate in their hand. But it's not so nice for someone on a mission. If it was a normal mission, Clint Barton would be expressing his annoyance over the coms, making his teammates want to abandon the mission and punch him in the face. However, this is no ordinary mission. It's the first mission since the epic battle against Ultron and the new Avengers are trying to get the hang of things. You're probably wondering, why is Clint there? Shouldn't he be back at the farmhouse, living with Laura and his children? Well, the thing is, the Avenger soon realized that he can't have a normal life. He isn't meant to life a happy, apple pie life. Especially when he had feelings with a certain pain-in-the-ass speedster who somehow survived getting hit by 47 bullets. Pietro and Clint both care for each other but unfortunately, their personalities refrain them from admitting it. They flirt, sure, but they haven't admitted that they have feelings underneath the flirtatious behavior. It's a shame, really. They're a match made from heaven.
Anyway, back to the present, Clint is basically here to "help" Nat and Steve but in reality, it's an excuse to hang around Pietro. Clint's eagle eyes scope the area and he can't help but smirk at the nervous New Avengers as they do the jobs assigned to them. It's yet another mission against Hydra but this time, it's not a charge in, beat up everyone then leave mission. There are prisoners being held in the compound and it's their job to retrieve them. Wanda's job is to get into the agents head and take out most of the threat, Pietro's job is to rescue the prisoners, Nat and Steve's job is to find information involving Bucky, Falcon and War Machine's job is to make sure no one from Hydra escapes, Vision's job is to gather any information he can and well Clint...he basically has to make sure no one else can get into the compound in case that the agents inside call reinforcements. Boring, right? Yeah, Clint thinks so too. It doesn't help that it's like zero degrees out. Damn. This sucks. His arrow is knocked into place, just waiting for the opportunity to sink itself into someone's flesh. Clint's been on countless missions where he literally sits there so he's pretty much used to it.
Hawkeye doesn't know how long he sits there, watching for threats or at least waiting for someone to say something over the coms. Finally, after what feels like hours of waiting, something happens. Something bad. A couple of grunts and screams can be heard over the coms and from what he can tell, they're coming from his teammates.
"Dammit." He hisses. What he would give to be home at the Avengers tower with Lucky by his side with Dog Cops on the TV. But no, he's stuck here and he knows that things are about to go south. His narrowed eyes immediately spots a few figures running out of the building. "Ah shit." He swears as he sees Steve supporting an unconscious Wanda. "Retreat!" Nat yells just as Falcon, War Machine and Vision shows up. But no Pietro. "I swear to God, if you're hurt, I'm going to beat your ass." Clint mutters, trying his very best to ignore the panic.
Suddenly there's a couple of gunshots and Natasha cries out as a bullet strikes her leg and Steve's face goes pale. Clint jumps to his feet immediately, not caring in the least that he's now an easier target. The team picks up the pace going in the direction of the jet that's waiting for them. There's only one problem. Clint's still stuck on this damn roof. Clint curses, yet again, and he moves towards the exit of the top of the building. The rain is pouring heavily now, making the archer cold to the bone. So cold that at first he doesn't feel the searing pain in his side. His eyes suddenly go wide and he stumbles before falling to his knees. He places a hand to his side and pulls back his hand, which is already scarlet red with blood.
"Well isn't this just fantastic..." He mutters, his eyes starting to fall. He can feel someone grab his hair and yank his head back but he doesn't even react.
"My thoughts exactly..." A cold, cruel voice whispers in his ear. There's a sharp pinch in the Avengers neck, a needle and unconsciousness suddenly rushes to him, grabbing him in a firm grip. The darkness consumes him then there's nothing at all.
