ONE THING MADELINE did not expect when she returned to college was the rumours surrounding her and this...older dude with cornrows. Apparently, one of her classmates had seen her and Tom and the ice skating rink and then, as usual, that information had spread around the sixth form like wildfire.

I can't believe it

What a slut

How much older?

God, girls with daddy issues go for anyone

Madeline sighs as she closes the stall to the bathroom after walking with her head down past a group of girls. It's not like she isn't used to people talking about her, spreading lies like wildfires throughout the school. She didn't expect them to be about her and Tom though...because, in actuality, their relationship has been nothing but innocent and sweet (aside from Tom's crude remarks every now and again).

She shouldn't care, she knows that. If any of these girls were in her position they'd be overjoyed. They're jealous and this time she can be sure of it.

And then...there's the constant murmurs about George's death all around her. It's like she can't escape him even after his death, because the case is still wide open and it was confirmed to be a murder. The cause of death being a slice to his throat...who would do that to him? Police have pleaded with anyone who may know anything about what happened to come forward, but nobody has because nobody knows. They have no leads, no suspects and the only evidence they have that could potentially lead them to their killer is the mark left carved into his skin.

Madeline sucks in a deep breath, resting her head in her hands as she sits on the toilet lid. Why can't she just have a quiet few months? Madeline sits up straight, thinking to herself over and over: just a few more months. A few more months and she'll never have to see these people again, she'll be off college for the summer and then off to Cambridge — hopefully.

"Maddy." Eryn's voice says as there's a gentle knock on the door of the cramped cubicle. "Is that you?"

Madeline responds by unlocking the door and allowing Eryn to slip inside, "you heard?" Madeline whispers and Eryn purses her lips and frowns slightly, not wanting to make her feel worse but Madeline can tell by the look on the red head's face that she knows exactly what she means.

"It's not that bad." Eryn says comfortingly, fixing a few strands of Madeline's hair. "I mean, everyone's jealous because you're seeing this sexy, older guy! Even the boys are fucking depressed because somebody has already swooped you off your feet."
