Azariah's pov
During my teenage years, which honestly wasn't that long ago, my father and I had our share of staring contests. You know the kind, the one where two stubborn mules would give each other the stink eye and wait to see who caves first.
I'm happy to report that I won the majority of those contests. The one I'm currently in? Not looking good for me.
Both of my hands were curled into tight fists, and although I couldn't see my own face, I'm pretty sure my left eye had started to twitch.
"Azariah, I can see you're about to have one of your famous meltdowns. So let me tell you again, they're safe. I spoke with Anton just as I was pulling up here. All three pups and Amber are fine. The male who broke into the house is nowhere to be found." He says for at least the third time.
His massive body was blocking the door to my SUV so I could take a minute to process the information he was giving me before racing off like a lunatic back to my house. "The fact that nobody has found the male in question is bothersome, don't you think?" I snarl at him. "And why are you not saying anything about Ryan?"
"He's trying to spare my feelings," Noah says before my dad can answer. "He was hit really hard and they couldn't get him to wake up so they took him to the medical facility."
"Come on, " I beckon Noah to go to the passenger's side of my car, "I'll drive." I didn't want to stand around speculating about any of their well beings any longer. I wasn't going to feel better until I saw them all for myself.
"Sorry, " Noah looks down and kicks at an invisible rock while stuffing his hands in his pockets. "There's nothing I can do to wake him up, but there is something I can do to help rescue Jace Micah and Finn."
"Ahhh" I half screamed. Why did I suddenly forget that my mate had been shot and captured by the enemy. My heart was being pulled in two different directions. "How sure are you that they're a million percent safe?"
"A million and ten percent. I wouldn't lie to you about this. Our time is running out kiddo. You need to get your team into position." My father calmly tells me.
On top of all the emotions swirling inside of me, I was now annoyed at how calm he managed to be during this shit show. His calm demeanor however, helped to reassure me that my pups and best friend must truly be okay, otherwise he would have turned himself around and never made it here in the first place. All I had to do was stick with the original plan.
Whatever the hell that was.
"We can't wait any longer," Kreed announces. He walks over to us, and slightly puts himself in between my father and I. "What's left of my crew and myself are going to head in the direction they took them. We need to act fast."
"He's right." I nod my head as if it will help me accept this decision. " Jess, Adler, Jared!" I holler out to them. "We need to get into position. You guys go ahead of me in my dad's truck, I'll be right behind you." After I called Amber that was. I needed to hear for myself that they were okay then I could go save my mate.
"We're waiting for you where we agreed to leave the cars." Jess says while pointing her finger accusingly at me.
"Five minutes," I confirm.
Jumping back in my jeep alone, I quickly pull up Amber's number and hit dial as I watch my father and the entire entourage of males who accompanied us on this mission disappear into the woods. It would only take them maybe twenty minutes to get to the boot camp.As for myself, it was a ten minute drive, then another twenty, if not longer, walk to where we needed to be. Why couldn't my special ability be flying? Having these rage attacks was practically useless considering I can't use it if anyone I cared about was within five hundred feet of me.
