The frigid wind howled as Johann Uber and Ja Nein trudged through the deep snow of the Alps, their boots crunching rhythmically in the white landscape. The peaks loomed high above them, shrouded in mist, making the world feel like an endless expanse of cold and ice. Uber walked confidently ahead, his broad shoulders cutting through the harsh wind like a tank, while Ja Nein followed closely behind, looking a little worse for wear.

Ja Nein’s teeth began to chatter, the cold seeping into his bones despite his best efforts to ignore it. His arms crossed tightly over his chest, and he shivered involuntarily. Uber, as observant as ever, glanced over his shoulder and raised an eyebrow.

“Ja Nein,” he growled, his deep voice rumbling over the wind. “You’re shivering.”

“Nein,” Ja Nein replied, his voice shaky but still sharp. “I am perfectly fine. The cold is nothing.”

Uber stopped walking and turned to face his smaller teammate, towering over him like a statue carved from the mountain itself. His eyes narrowed, but a small, knowing smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

“You look like a baby bird about to freeze,” he said, almost mockingly. “You’re cold.”

“I said I’m fine,” Ja Nein insisted, his pride wounded more by Uber’s smirk than the cold itself. He straightened up as much as he could, trying to look unfazed. “This is nothing compared to our training sessions.”

Uber’s smirk widened as he unzipped his thick jacket, the fabric stiff from the cold air. Without another word, he pulled it off and threw it over Ja Nein’s head. Ja Nein flailed for a moment, startled, before he finally tugged the oversized jacket around himself. It practically swallowed him, hanging awkwardly off his slender frame.

“W-what are you doing?” Ja Nein sputtered, his face flushing a little—whether from embarrassment or the sudden warmth of the jacket, it was hard to tell.

“Keeping you from turning into an icicle,” Uber replied, his tone gruff but somehow gentle. He crossed his arms, now only in his thermal shirt, which did little to hide his hulking muscles. “You’ll slow us down if you freeze to death.”

Ja Nein tugged the jacket tighter around him, his cheeks still flushed as he muttered under his breath. “I wouldn’t have slowed us down.”

“Sure,” Uber drawled sarcastically, but there was a glint of amusement in his eyes. He leaned down slightly, smirking even more. “What was that? You’re mumbling like a scared kitten.”

Ja Nein scowled up at him. “This is ridiculous,” he huffed, feeling small and ridiculous in Uber’s gigantic jacket. “It’s way too big.”

“Fits perfectly,” Uber retorted, his smirk widening into a grin. “Besides, I think you look cute.”

“C-cute?” Ja Nein’s face turned an even deeper shade of red, and he quickly looked away, pulling the hood over his head to hide his expression. “You’re impossible.”

“Am I?” Uber asked, his grin turning mischievous. He reached over and flicked the hood, making Ja Nein flinch. “Maybe next time, you’ll admit you’re cold before you start freezing, pipsqueak.”

Ja Nein glared up at him, but the warmth of the jacket was already making him feel a little more relaxed, even if his pride was still smarting. “Just walk,” he muttered, tightening the jacket further.

Uber chuckled deeply, turning and resuming their trek. Ja Nein followed, still bundled in the massive jacket, but this time, his shivering had stopped.

For a moment, the cold didn’t seem quite as unbearable.
