---Chapter One: Overworked and Underappreciated
Isabella "Bella" Cole had always prided herself on being the best personal assistant anyone could ask for. She was organized, efficient, and had a knack for anticipating her boss's needs before he even voiced them. However, working for Luca Romano, the charming yet infuriatingly arrogant CEO of their marketing firm, was a challenge that tested her limits.
The morning sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of their sleek office, casting a golden glow on Bella's desk. She glanced at the clock—8:55 AM. Luca was known for his punctuality, and she had only five minutes to prepare for his daily briefing. Just as she finished gathering her notes, the office door swung open, and in walked Luca, exuding confidence in a perfectly tailored suit.
“Bella!” he called, his voice smooth like silk. “Did you send out the revised proposals for the Thompson account?”
“Of course, Luca,” Bella replied, trying to keep her tone steady. “They were sent out an hour ago, and I attached the latest revisions.”
Luca flashed her a disarming smile that made her heart skip a beat. “You’re a lifesaver. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he said, leaning back slightly, as if expecting her to shower him with praise.
She felt a blush creep up her cheeks but quickly masked it with a professional demeanor. “Just doing my job,” she replied, avoiding his gaze, knowing too well how easily his charm could disarm her.
As the morning meeting began, Bella took meticulous notes while Luca presented to the team, his charisma effortlessly captivating everyone in the room. It was hard not to admire him; he was brilliant and undeniably handsome. But his arrogance often made her want to roll her eyes, especially when he dismissed her suggestions as if they were trivial.
After the meeting, Bella was buried in her work when she felt a presence at her desk. She looked up to find Luca leaning casually against the edge, a teasing smile on his face.
“Bella, what do you say to grabbing lunch together today?” he asked, his tone light but with an underlying arrogance that grated on her nerves.
Bella’s heart raced, but she knew better than to blur the lines between professional and personal. “I’m sorry, but I have a lot of work to catch up on,” she said, forcing herself to sound firm, even as she felt a twinge of disappointment.
Luca raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “You’re always working. You need to take a break once in a while. I mean, how do you expect to keep up with me if you’re always buried in paperwork?” He flashed her that infuriatingly confident grin.
“I’m fine, really,” she insisted, trying to deflect his attention. “There are just a few deadlines I need to meet.”
He leaned in a bit closer, his tone teasing. “You know, Bella, you don’t have to impress me. I already know you’re the best at what you do. But lunch could be a nice break from your endless to-do list.”
Her stomach fluttered at the compliment, but she quickly pushed the feeling aside, knowing it was just a ploy. “Thanks, but lunch isn’t really an option today,” she replied, determined to hold her ground.
“Suit yourself,” he replied with a smirk, walking away. “But you’re missing out.”
As she watched him go, Bella couldn’t help but feel a mix of frustration and excitement. Working for Luca Romano was never boring, and every encounter left her feeling more confused about her feelings. She had her dreams and aspirations, and this job was just a stepping stone. Still, a part of her wondered if there could be something more between them—something hidden beneath the layers of his arrogance and her stubbornness.
Little did she know, Luca was equally intrigued by the fiery assistant who refused to be swept away by his charm, and every interaction only fueled a growing tension that neither of them could ignore.
