"DRUK BOYS are the first Bhutanese popstars to hold a concert in Thailand, with over 50,000 attendees," the news reporter announced. "What are you watching?" I asked Tshering, my roommate and friend, as I nudged her.
"DRUK BOYS," she replied, eyes glued to the TV. "What?" I said, giving her a gentle shove.
On the screen, four attractive boys flashed by. Lately, their band name had been on my mind. Despite their relative obscurity in other countries, they've become a sensation in Bhutan."How do you feel?" the reporter asked the band."I feel extremely fortunate and proud that we could do that," one of the boys said.
I grabbed my laptop bag and headed for the door. "Are you leaving already?" Tshering asked as she heard the door creak open. "Yes, I have a meeting to get to," I replied, stepping out.
.....
It was a typical sunny day at Shimer, where the atmosphere was always bustling with activity. Suddenly, something shiny zipped through the air and hit me square in the face. Startled, I looked up to see a woman rushing over.
"I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, her expression filled with concern.
"It's alright," I replied, rubbing my forehead and smiled at her to make her at ease. "I can see how it happened; the apple container just popped open. "As she began to gather the scattered apples, she explained, "I have a lot to carry."
"Let me help you with that," I offered, kneeling down to assist her."I truly apologize for this," she continued, her hands busy collecting the fruits.
"It's no trouble at all," I reassured her, and soon we had managed to gather all the apples.
"Please, take these two apples," she insisted, extending them toward me.I handed them back, saying, "No, thank you. You should keep them."
"Really, take them. I'll feel bad if you don't," she urged, pressing the apples into my hands."Thank you," I said with a smile, glancing at my watch. Realizing I was running late, I dashed off like a cheetah, eager to continue my day
....
When I finally arrived in front of the workplace, I dashed inside, fortunately, the meeting hasn't started. After we finished with the presentation, the director looked at me and said, "Dechen, I think we should come up with your idea, I liked it." The smile grew on my face.
"Agreed, sir. I'll gather some more information and present it to you, sir."Everyone assembled their things and begins to disperse from the meeting room.
"You did great, Dechen," the director said, Looking at me, I can't resist grinning. My idea was cancelled the previous year, but this year it will be used to publish our magazine. "Dechen, let's go grab lunch together." Tenzin, my only friend in this group, approached me. I nodded, yes.
Finding female acquaintances was a challenge, especially since our section had more male co-workers than female ones. "Thank God you finally put your plan into action," Tenzin said, looking at me. "Yes, thank God! All my hard work has finally paid off," I replied, feeling grateful for the first time in my life.
Abruptly, I heard a familiar tune on our large television screen. Glancing over, I saw the Druk Boys. As I gestured at the screen, I asked, "Do you know them?" With one spoonful of rice in his mouth, he ask, "Is there anyone who doesn't know them?"
"You know them too," I said, startled that he was aware, given how little he seemed to care about what was happening around him.
He looked at me and said, "Yes, is it really that surprising that I know them?." I gave a head shake. I've only known them for a month too; he must have also heard their names many times as they were being mentioned more in medias.
