Year 2005
It was Junhui’s first time stepping onto Korean soil after arriving from Shenzhen, China. Her mother had immigrated to Korea, hoping to start a new life after separating from her unfaithful husband.
At just nine years old, Junhui was more mature than most kids his age. He had already come to terms with the fact that they would be living in this new country for good.
No family. No relatives. No friends or classmates who knew him. It was just the two of them, facing a fresh start in a foreign land.
Junhui just hoped it was all for the better—that this new life would help his mother find happiness again, to see her smile like she used to. He didn’t mind the changes or the unfamiliar surroundings, as long as it meant she could finally heal from the pain of the past.
