— Pay Attention
(filler chapter, sorry)
THERE WASN'T MUCH to Freddie McClair. Dizzy didn't have much of an opinion about him because he wasn't drama, he usually tried preventing it if anything. Effy liked him. It wasn't evident to her. Cook was almost like a filler, and to Dizzy, that was cruel. She didn't really like how she treated people, but it wasn't up to her.His sister was on some competition show. Sexbombs was a very popular show, so of course, everyone knew Karen was on it. She was a very pretty girl.
Dizzy always knew she was pretty too. All of her friends had been a particular type of pretty. They were just all kind of fucked up.
Effy told Dizzy the day after Pandora's party, that Cook slept with Panda. Dizzy almost didn't believe it, but based on Effy's sour mood toward the whole thing, Dizzy believed it.
Dizzy had been particularly quiet since she's been with Jace again. The morning after she left, they talked on the phone for a little bit while Dizzy watched her aunts kids. He opened up to her despite his resistance to keep himself closed.
Everything was stop and go with Jace. Nothing was definite, but it was just a little fun. In class they talked very minimally, but they always sat close.
Effy had stopped over some odd days later. She was wearing a dress and seemed rather annoyed. Penny came up to her demanding some love which Effy gave sparingly including animals. She pet his head for a moment and joined Dizzy in the dining room.
She popped blueberries in her mouth as she waited for Effy to speak. She watched as Effy popped one in her mouth too.
"Don't tell me you've got shy," Dizzy teased the girl who had a ghost of a smile lingering upon her lips.
"I just don't get it. You made it look easy," Effy said as rolled a blueberry around on the table. "You and Jace. You have it somehow."
"We really have nothing except sex," Dizzy joked as her father walked in only for him to back right out of the room. She'd be getting the talk for the tenth time.
"Still," Effy said softly.
"What's this about?" Dizzy quizzed. As far as she was aware, Effy didn't open up to anyone but her. Not in a long time at least. She trusted Dizzy and knew she was loyal. "Is this about your parents? Cook and Freddie?"
"How do you know me? I don't tell you anything," Effy said ignoring her friends questions.
"I pay attention. I know you pay attention too," Dizzy answered. Effy tossed the blueberry she had back in the bowl they'd been in.
"I didn't realize anyone noticed," Effy almost whispered. Dizzy looked down and sighed.
"Everyone notices, but it's the ones that say something that matter, Ef," Dizzy told her making the girl rise from her seat.
"I'll see you later, D," Effy smiled before exiting the home. And of course she would.

EVERYONE HAD BEEN playing trivia while Jace and Dizzy sat in the back. She laughed at one of his jokes, her hand finding his forearm as she giggled. She couldn't play trivia because then she'd miss time with him. Jace had his eyebrow pierced, it was still healing. Although, Dizzy wasn't sure of the look on other people, he made it work.
Jace cupped her cheek and went in for a kiss. Their lips meeting gently because of the public setting they were in. She pulled away and smiled. She didn't know when this would end or how, this flirting they were doing, but she didn't kind.
"Has anyone ever told you how fucking fit you are?" Dizzy whispered and he shrugged before sipping from his pint. "Don't okay fucking coy, Jace."
She lightly pushed his shoulder causing him to laugh. His eyes softened when he caught her smiling to herself before sipping her vodka soda.
Things either felt hard or easy with him. Right now they felt pretty damn simple as she linked their fingers together. His eyes admired her as she took another sip. He didn't know he could feel like this about another person. His mind went into panic mode as her fingers grazed his knuckles. The feeling was so comforting and soft, yet he couldn't help but shoot up from his seat, startling the girl.
"Jace?" She chuckled as he grabbed his jacket. He was leaving. "What happened?" Her tone was more serious as she got up to follow him and she did. Right out of the bar.
"Leave me alone, Dizzy," He shouted at her without looking back. She furrowed her eyebrows, feeling the pain of rejection as he stormed away.
"Wanker," She whispered to herself before walking in the other direction. She didn't want to deal with this. She existed, then she didn't. He wanted her, then he didn't. It was painful to go through the motions of this rollercoaster ride. The highs were high and the lows were low.
