I entered Jay's class with a sigh. I was absolutely exhausted. The fluorescent lights above me flickered slightly.
Students were already settling in, the room filled with the soft rustle of papers and the occasional whispered conversation.
I took my usual seat, pulling out my notebook and pen and leaned my head down on the desk, my head slightly aching.
I must have dozed off because the next thing I knew, I was woken up by the sound of screeching chairs, the students filing out as Jay yelled out, "And do not forget about the deadline for the essay. It is tomorrow before 10 p.m."
I lifted my head groggily, blinking in the sudden brightness of the classroom. Jay was erasing the whiteboard, his back turned to me.
Clearing my throat, I made my way out of the class as well, feeling a sense of disappointment down my stomach for missing Ethan. Why didn't he show up?
"Did you dream about me?" Jeremy walked up to me, surprising me.
I scoffed, "As if."
"Why'd you doze off like that?" He asked.
"Just tired. I had to run to my mom's office to get her some documents from home. Then I drove here. Then my dad called, he also needed some documents." I sighed, "So I had to drive back home, and to his office, and then back here."
Jeremy's eyes widened, "That's a lot.", he sympathized. "No wonder you're exhausted."
"I'll survive." I shrugged, rubbing my temples.
"So?"
"So?" I frowned.
"I heard what happened at the pool party thing."
"Oh? Did you?" I sighed.
"It sounded like you rolled her up like a burrito." Jeremy chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I wish I could have seen it."
I couldn't help but laugh, the tension in my shoulders easing slightly. "It was pretty ridiculous," I admitted. "But she deserved it."
"Oh, I am sure," Jeremy said, shaking his head.
"Yeah," I sighed.
"Up for a coffee?" He asked.
I thought for a second.
"Mm. I'll pass. I've got some stuff." I said, a bit awkwardly.
"No worries." He faltered in his steps and I heard him say behind me, "See ya."
Yes, I was avoiding him.
I felt kinda guilty because I didn't know this for sure. But I recently felt like he had feelings for me.
And normally, I wouldn't care. But it's Jeremy. He's been my friend for so long. And after this long, I would never consider him someone I have or would potentially have feelings for.
It made me feel weird and awkward around him.
It wasn't a clear sign or anything. But it was pretty normal, like constant texting, always tried to make me feel better, hanging out for coffee and food and stuff like that. It was like any other friendship. But with him, it felt different.
"Daydreaming, Ava?" A voice called out and I halted to a stop.
I turned to see Ethan leaning against the wall, his backpack slung over one shoulder. His eyes gleamed with amusement, a small smirk playing on his lips.
"No. Are you?" I smirked back.
"Maybe," Ethan said, pushing himself off the wall and walking toward me.
