RWBY: Vermintide

Chapter Three - First Enounter

As Team RWBY and Team JNPR rested inside the abandoned building, the Night Runners from Clan Eshin silently moved across the walls of the building as Team RWBY kept watch. At the same time, Blake was still troubled by what she had seen. 

Yang: Still spooked about earlier? 

Blake: You could say that.

Yang: Well if anything here gets any funny ideas, we'll kick their butts! 

Blake fell silent as she pondered at what she saw. It was clear that whatever was out there wasn't Grimm, but that brought no comfort to her despite that fact. Soon enough, the Night Runners were right above Team RWBY and Team JNPR. The Night Runners prepared their blades and got into position. As they slowly moved into position, Team RWBY were completely unaware of the Skaven lurking above them. One of the Night Runners gestured to the other Night Runners and they dropped down from the ceiling and attacked Team RWBY. Team RWBY were taken completely surprise as the Skaven attacked them. During the scuffle, Team JNPR was woken up by the fight. 

Jaune: What the.....

When they saw Team RWBY being attacked by the Skaven Night Runners, Team JNPR readied their weapons and helped Team RWBY fight off the Skaven. As Team RWBY fights the Skaven off, the Night Runners snarled as they clutched their weapons. Both Team RWBY and Team JNPR were completely taken aback by the appearance of the Skaven Night Runners. 

Yang: What the hell?!

Skaven Night Runner: Kill-kill! 

The Night Runners lunged at both Team RWBY and Team JNPR. Despite having the numbers against the Skaven, the Night Runners outclassed the two teams. At one point, one of the Night Runners pounced on Blake and attempts to drive the blade onto her, but Yang stepped in and blasted the Night Runner with a blast from Ember Celica. Yang then helps Blake up. As the fight dragged on, Pyrrha attempts to use her Semblance to try and disarm the Night Runners, but one of the Skaven pounced on Pyrrha and attempts to bite off her face with his jaws. 

Jaune: Get off of her!

Jaune attempts to help Pyrrha, but he was attacked by one of the Night Runners. Pyrrha was able to fight off the Night Runner and kick him off of her. At this point, Team RWBY and Team JNPR were cornered by the Night Runners. But as Team RWBY and Team JNPR were about to fight back, the bells once more tolled thirteen times. Without hesitation, the Night Runners began running away. Team RWBY and Team JNPR chased after the Ratmen, but the Skaven Night Runners jumped out the window and climbed down the building. The two teams watched in shock as the Night Runners scurried away.

Jaune: Were those.....giant rats? 

Blake: They....they didn't look like Faunus.....

Weiss: I've....I've never seen anything like that before.....

Ren: This is bad.....

At this point, Ruby was trying to process what had just happened. Not only did the Skaven managed to sneak right up to them, but the Skaven had every intention of killing her. 

Ruby: Blake....those....those ratmen.....were they.....

Blake: I....I don't know...

At this point, it was clear to Ruby that whatever the Skaven were, they were incredibly dangerous. 

Ruby: Okay....those Ratmen seemed to respond to the bells. They must be the ones ringing them!

Weiss: Well if they're ringing the bells, then it's clear that they don't want any help. 

Pyrrha: Which makes them even more dangerous. If they're trying to herd all the Grimm and aim them just like Torchwick did, then we need to put a stop to it. 

Yang: Well stopping them is going to be a lot tougher since those....Ratmen got away. They're probably running to let whoever is running this whole operation about us. 

Nora: That just means we get to break their rat legs!

Ren: I....I don't think that will help us, Nora. We don't even know how many of them are there. 

As Ren said that, Blake's mind fell back to when everyone saw the shadowy figures in the distance. Blake quickly deduced that that those shadow figures were in fact the Skaven. But even then, Blake was unaware just how many Skaven were currently occupying Mountain Glenn. Suddenly, the bells begin ringing thirteen more times.

Jaune: That's not good.....

Weiss: We better get out of here before more of those....things get here. 

Pyrrha: Agreed. It's too dangerous to stay here. 

With that, Team RWBY and Team JNPR exited the building to avoid any Skaven that may come looking for them in the building. As they exited the building and put some distance between themselves and the building, they spotted a group of Skaven scurrying towards the building. Team RWBY and Team JNPR did not linger long as they they moved forward.

Jaune: What's the plan? 

Ruby: We need to get to Mountain Glenn and stop those bells. 

Weiss: Which means we'll no doubt encounter more of those....Ratmen. 

Pyrrha: We'll need to be smart about this. We can't afford to get discovered. 

Ruby: Pyrrha's right. We'll need to sneak up to the bells and disable them. 

With that, Team RWBY and Team JNPR decided that their best course of action was to navigate through Mountain Glenn so that they could disable the bells. In that moment, Team RWBY and Team JNPR had their first encounter with the Skaven. But what they didn't realize was that they were once more being followed. But this time, they would be much more dangerous and deadly than the Night Runners they encountered.
