"Didn't you eat??", he asked.

"No I was waiting for you", she replied.

Warmth spread through him at her reply, a feeling he wasn’t used, felt strangely… comforting.

He looked at the plate, feeling too tired and drained to even think about eating.

Noticing his lack of interest, she asked softly, “Don’t feel like eating?”

He shook his head slightly, murmuring, “hmmm no Just too tired…”

Hearing his reply, she took a bite from his plate and offered it to him. “Here, eat now,” she urged, a soft smile playing on her lips.

He opened his mouth, accepting the bite she offered. As she fed him, she took bites for herself too, simultaneously.

He watched her as she focused their food, a warm smile crept onto his face.

How did I get so lucky?, The thought echoed in his mind, almost too good to believe. She’s everything I never knew I needed.

As he took another bite, he couldn’t help but think, She’s mine. No one else gets to have her like this. No one else will ever know her the way I do.

He felt a surge of protectiveness wash over him, a fierce determination to always keep her close.

I’ll do anything to make her happy. She deserves the world and more.

“Can I ask you something?” she said nervously, feeding him another bite.

“Hmm,” he replied, looking up at her. “You don’t need to ask me pearl.”

“Why did you come home so late? Are you always late? Who served you dinner?” she bombarded him with questions, her concern spilling over.

He chuckled softly at her flurry of inquiries.

“Whoa, slow down!” he said, holding up his hands.

“Just tell me why are you so late?” she pressed, genuinely curious.

He leaned back in his chair, a mock-serious expression crossing his face. “Well, let me tell you, it was an epic adventure. First, my idiot PA called me about some files he forgot to send. I mean, who does that?”

She couldn’t help but laugh at his exaggerated tone.

“Then, as if that wasn’t enough, I got stuck in traffic because some guy decided to do a dance-off in the middle of the road!” He rolled his eyes dramatically.

“I thought I was in some bizarre reality show. The only thing missing was the audience cheering him on!”

She listened intently feeding him, a smile playing on her lips as he recounted his day.

The way he described his frustrations made him sound like a child complaining about mountains of homework.

He continued, “Finally, just when I thought I could escape, an emergency call came in as if it was the end of the day, You know how it is—one thing after another!”

She laughed, her joy lighting up the room, and he realized he had been rambling.

Her smile made him realize how much he enjoyed making her laugh.

After finishing dinner, they headed to their room, They lay on their respective sides of the bed, but sleep is far away from them.

He glanced at her whose back is facing him, and he couldn’t help but feel a surge of longing.
