A little rain twinkled from the sky as the moon still shone from the clouds. It had been a rough night for our poor hero of light. Link stumbled up the stairs to enter the Castle Town, covered in bloody scars, and mud. Midna sat comfortably in his shadow, worrying that he was overworking himself.
"Hey, Link..." Midna said from her shadow, Link didn't respond, he just continued to make his way to Telma's bar in the rain. "Link...?"
"What do you want, Midna?" Link said sharply, his eyes flicking down to his shadow in icy blue fire. Midna quickly growled at him before saying,
"Say, why don't we take a break sometime? You seem to be working a little bit harder than I think your body can handle..."
Link stopped in his tracks, a large frown on his face,
"Midna, I can't stop." He said looking up at the mist-covered moon, "You and Zelda's people need me. Heroes don't take breaks."
Midna crossed her arms and flew out of his shadow, pushing Link back a bit.
"What-"
"Look at yourself! You're covered in scars and dirt, and you're bleeding..." Midna trailed off to watch a shadow go over the moon. Link looked down at his tunic, on which certain parts had been dyed a shade of auburn from dried blood. He sighed inwardly, and looked back up at Midna, who by now, had turned back to him.
"Are you ready to take a break?"
Link gave a very reluctant nod, and started for Telma's bar again.
"Oh! Link! Look at yourself!" Telma exclaimed when Link had made it to the bar. Link rolled his eyes, and plopped down in a chair, taking off his sword and shield and setting them on the table. Telma clicked over to him, demanded he stand up, and pulled out one of his arms, looking him over for wounds. She scowled at him when she saw a large gash on his side. Link had managed to heal most of it with a fairy, but it still managed to bleed out all over the side of his tunic.
"My Nayru," Telma muttered under her breath, she stood straight up and pointed a finger at Link. "You're covered from head to toe in blood, boy!"
"It's not that bad."
"It's not that bad, my foot!" Telma stomped the ground, "You stay right there mister, you're not going anywhere until i treat those wounds."
Telma disappeared behind the bar, and Link sat down in a chair, breathing out a huge sigh of relief. As much as he didn't want to admit it, a break was kind of nice.
After awhile, Telma reappeared with a box full of supplies in her arms. She threw it on the table in front of Link, and instantly began rummaging through it. She pulled out a long roll of gauze.
"Stand up and take your tunic off." Telma demanded.
Link looked up at Telma, confused "What?"
"I said stand up and take your tunic off."
"In the middle of the bar?" Link exclaimed, then died he voice down to a whisper, "There are other people here."
"I don't care, just do it."
Link reluctantly stood up, and carefully removed his top, revealing a plethora of scars, bruises, and gashes that were crusted with fresh old blood. Telma heaved a hefty but short sigh and began wiping his torso down. Link's face was bright red, as he saw people begin to stare. He kept his eyes down, wincing every so often as Telma glazed over a fresh wound. Telma wrapped the gauze around his waist and pulled it tight. A little leftover blood seeped through but for the most part, the wound was clean and taken care of.
"Thank you, Telma," Link pulled out his wallet. "Please let me pay you, you didn't have to do that."
Telma made a motion with her hand, "Oh please honey, it was nothing. Actually, I have something else for you before you head out again."
Once Link pulled on his tunic, Telma appeared in front of him with a bottle full of warm soup. She handed it to him and winked,
"For your adventure, so you can think of me and come back to get more."
Link smiled, "Thank you so much, Telma. You've really helped me a lot."
Telma smirked at him and put a hand to her hip, "Oh darling, there's no need to thank me, it's just how we do things here."
Moonlight shone through the window, and the sound of rain had stopped, prime time for the hero to begin his journey again. Link wrapped his sword around his back, and situated his shield. He waved to Telma before walking towards the door. Link opened the door and stopped dead in his tracks.
"Link?" Telma looked over at him, "Is there something wrong?"
Link stared outside, at the snow falling softly from the sky. The moon was gone, and the streets were iced. A icy wind blew into the bar from the open door, making everyone inside feel a chill down their backs.
"Shut that door!" Someone yelled, and Link did. He stood in the doorway for a couple of minutes before falling back into a chair.
"Its never snowed here before." Telma explained a little while later, "It gets cold, but, not as cold as now."
Link stared out the window at the snow drifting silently from the black sky, his shadow quivered beneath him slightly and Link knew that this snow wasn't natural at all.
