~Auburn P.O.V.

I tried unbuckling my seat belt, screaming his name. He was unresponsive from what I could tell. I heard sirens in the background, gradually getting closer and closer. I finally unbuckled my seat belt and put all my might into crawling through the window and broken glass. Ignoring all of the pain shooting through my body, I hobbled over to Dre. Kneeling down next to him, I held his head in my lap, crying over him.

"Dre? Baby? Can you hear me? Please let me know you can hear me." I begged as tears ran down my face.

"Shh." I looked down and he looked up at me. "I'm fine, you're bleeding pretty bad." He coughed out.

"I don't care, I'm worried more about you." I cried.

"Don't worry about me. I love you, Auburn. Always have, Lord knows how much I love you and Kayla. You two are my family, you'll be safe." He said before he closed his eyes.

"No, Dre wake your ass up." I cried tapping him repeatedly. "Please, don't do this. It's not your time baby, we still have a lot of living to do together. You know? We can take a trip, Kayla, you and I. Just the three of us. Please Dre, I'm sorry I put you through this." I continued, while rocking him in my arms.

The paramedics finally showed up and tore me away from him. Sending us in two different trucks, I cried hysterically as the man in the ambulance kept trying to look me over. Going up to the ER, I saw them rushing Dre into a room, with an oxygen mask covering his face and about five different doctors crowding him. I jumped up, attempting to run over to him but they pulled me back. They strapped me down in the bed and gave me some type of shot that knocked me out instantly.

I woke up hooked up to machines with no recollection of how I ended up in here. I looked around the all white room wondering if maybe this is just a dream. An all too realistic dream. A knock on the door caused me to jump, in walked the doctor holding a clipboard in her hand.

"Miss. Turner, I presume?" She inquired looking over my chart.

I nodded.

"Do you know how you ended up in here Miss. Turner?" She asked sitting in the chair beside me.

I nodded again, remembering the accident and soon I became alert.

"Where is Andreas?" I asked with tears forming.

"He's in a room down the hall, he had some pretty terrible injuries. He'll be fine though, we had to induce him into a coma but he is due to wake up soon. Now I need to know if you're okay? Do you feel any aching or soreness?" She asked.

"No, I don't. Can I see him? Please?" I cried.

She gave me a saddened look and nodded. Together we walked to where he was and I stood outside of his room preparing myself for the worst. I went in and there he was, a cast on his left leg and bandages on his side and neck. I went over and held his hand, a tear fell from my eye and onto his hand.

"Baby, I hope you wake up soon. I can't take seeing you in this condition. I need you up and walking around and smiling. The faster that happens the faster we can take our lives back." I sighed.

"You cry more than an infant, you know that?" I heard a voice say behind me.

I turn to see Demetrius standing in the door.

"Why are you here?" I ask stepping closer to Dre's bed, where the remote is to call a nurse.

"Just came to check on ole boy. That was some accident you had there, honey. Too bad you made it out alive, can't say the same for your friend here." He shrugged.

"I don't know what sort of sick and twisted game you're playing here but it needs to stop. I don't want to be with you, Kayla doesn't need you in her life. Get the fuck outta here, and leave me the fuck alone. I'm so sick of having to look over my shoulder every five seconds making sure you're not there. You're pathetic, you want Kayla? You're gonna have to kill me first, but keep in mind, this ain't your city anymore and when Kayla grows up, she's going to start asking questions. Questions about me, what are you going to tell her? That I died in an accident? That I left her one day? Pull that shit if you want to and trust me, you will never, ever live it down. You can bet money on it." I gritted out.

"Look who finally grew a pair." He chuckled and began applauding. "You move away for a few months and all of a sudden you're a bad-ass? Cut the shit, I did, I do and I always will have you wrapped around my finger, sweetheart. You ain't shit without me, baby. You need me." I put up my hand, stopping his rant.

"No! You need me! I'm happy without you, I'm my own person without you. Without you, I can avoid countless trips to the hospital because of how 'clumsy' I am. No, honey, you ain't shit without me. Why else would you go through all of this trouble harassing me? I'm no longer scared of you, the fear you have put inside of me is gone. You're nothing but a tragic mistake. I walk on dirt worth more than you. Evidently I'm getting to you, that vein popping out of your head right now proves it to me. You need me to feel strong, beating on me makes you feel like a man. Well guess what, sweetheart, you're nothing close to it. You are dismissed." I stated fanning him away.

He charged at me, pinning me up against the wall with his hand on my throat.

"You're going to regret everything you just said to me." He sneered.

"The only thing I regret is meeting you." I said while reaching for the lamp on the side table.

I slammed it against his head and we both fell to the ground. I went for the door but he grabbed my ankle pulling me down to the ground. He got on top of me punching me repeatedly. I thrust my hips, sending him flying into the wall. I kicked him in his stomach multiple times before making it out of the room.

"Call the police, please." I begged the nurse.

She quickly picked up the phone dialing 9-1-1. I saw Demetrius come out of the room and try to get away, security ran up and tackled him to the ground and handcuffing him.

"I'm far from finished with you, Shane!" He yelled being dragged away from me.

"Let's go, buddy." One of the cops sneered.

A cop approached me, I'm assuming to check on me.

"Hello, I'm officer Williams. Mind if I ask you a few questions?" He asked me, leading me to a sitting area.

"Of course." I sat beside him as he began his inquisition.

"What is your relationship with the assailant?" He asked.

"Demetrius Carter, was...well is my husband. I ran away from him, with our daughter a few months ago. We lived together in California, he's an athlete. He was very abusive, in fact most of these scars I have weren't because of that car accident." I explained.

"With that information, you could press charges if you would like to. I know most women wouldn't but I really want to help you." He expressed sincerely.

"I would definitely like to press charges. I need to protect my family, and this is the best way." I sighed with relief.

Now that Demetrius doesn't have the home court advantage, I can finally make this happen. I can rid myself and my child of his madness. I can protect myself and hopefully never have to see him again.

"If it's not too much, I can suggest an excellent divorce lawyer who can get you out of this marriage. He's very expensive but more than highly qualified. If you're interested I'll write down his number on the back of my card. If you need anything please do not hesitate to call." He wrote down the number and handed me his card before shaking my hand and walking away.

I smiled at the thought of ending this ongoing hazard to my life. I stood up and went back to Dre's room, refusing help from one of the nurse's. Even after everything that happened tonight, I feel fine, considering the fact I can finally be happy. I walked over to the side of Dre's bed and held his hand.

"It's finally over, baby." I smiled as another tear fell on his bed side.
