"WHOA!" Shorty threw out his arm, skidding to a stop, his arm blocking Lizavet from falling over the edge of the ziggurat.

Emily flung her arms wide. Indy grabbed her, pulling her back from the edge.

"There used to be a platform here!" Emily cried.

"Used to be a whole lot more here," Indy echoed.

They stared over what had been the city of Diya. The entire complex that had been an ancient city was now a churning lava lake.

"The Treasure Guardian did not stop the volcanic activity," Lizavet mused. "I suppose he intends to destroy it all."

"With us in it?" Shorty asked, staring in horror are the convulsing lava below them.

"Not the Treasure Guardian I met," Indy surmised. "You don't give people a second chance and too short time to act on it. That's something the apkallu would do. Not the Treasure Guardian. There has to be another way out."

"This was the city of Diya," Emily stammered, looking over into the pit of lava, rising like boiling water toward them. "Its the only way I know how to get out."

"Other options kids?" Indy asked. "We can't stay here. Lava's going to reach the top of the ziggurat soon!"

"Emily, you said there was a lake near here. Can't the water put it out?" Shorty asked.

"Too hot," Lizavet answered. "We have to go back. The water will turn to steam and the whole complex will explode."

"Looks like the ziggurat is melting too," Emily pointed, watching the dragon snakes on the edge of the pyramid peel off the side and melt into flames.

Half the temple stairs collapsed downward.

"Run! Back to the inner sanctum where the altar is!" Indy shoved them back inside. "We'll think of something on the way!"

Lizavet looked at Shorty. "Is this normal for your family?"

Emily grinned. "For us to make stuff as we go? Yeah. Perfectly normal family tradition." She pointed her father. "He started it."

Indy grinned.
