Chapter 7
Later that afternoon, the rain had finally let up, and Diana woke up from a nap, stretching and looking around the cramped space. Yeon Jun was nowhere to be seen. She rubbed her eyes, still groggy, as the door swung open and Yeon Jun stepped in, a cigarette hanging loosely from his lips.
"Hey," he said, brushing rain droplets off his hair.
"Hey," she yawned, swinging her legs over the bed and searching for her shoes. "I'm starving. I'm going out to find something to eat."
"Wait up," Yeon Jun called as she headed for the door.
"What?" She paused, one eyebrow raised.
"How's your Korean?" he asked, giving her a look that suggested he already knew the answer.
Diana winced, then gave him a grin. "It's...uh...serviceable. Like, I can say 'hello,' 'how much is that,' and 'where's the hospital?' You know, the essentials."
Yeon Jun winced at her Korean. It was way worse than he had dared to imagine in his head. "So basically, you're in trouble."
She sighed. "More or less."
He patted his pockets, pulling out his wallet. "Want me to come with you? I can be your personal translator."
She narrowed her eyes, pretending to be suspicious. "You offering out of the goodness of your heart?"
He shrugged. "Or maybe I'm just hungry. Either way, it works out."
Diana laughed. "Alright, tag along then."
