Chapter 16

Back in the camper, they settled into bed, the pillow wall reinstated. Diana yawned, snuggling into her blanket. "Today was nice. I mean, minus the hail and the threat of wolves."

Yeon Jun laughed. "Glad you enjoyed it."

As they lay there in the darkness, the sound of the stream outside filled the silence. Diana's voice came, soft and hesitant. "You know, for a trip that started as a disaster, this has turned out... pretty amazing."

Yeon Jun smiled in the dark, his voice matching her quiet tone. "Yeah, it has."

She hesitated, and he could almost hear the wheels turning in her head. "If you could change one thing about your life right now, what would it be?"

He thought about it, his fingers tracing invisible patterns on the bed. "I'd stop running."

Diana's voice was barely a whisper. "From what?"

"Everything," he admitted. "From people, from feelings... from myself."

She nodded, understanding all too well. "You know, sometimes running is easier. It's safer."

"Yeah," he agreed. "But it's also lonely."

The silence that followed was thick with unspoken truths. Diana turned, her hand resting near the pillow barrier. "Maybe it's time to stop running."

Yeon Jun felt the truth of her words settle deep inside him. "Maybe."

They lay there, side by side, the pillow wall feeling less like a barrier and more like a small, unnecessary comfort. And as the night grew quieter, they both drifted off, knowing that the road ahead was still uncertain, but for once, neither of them felt alone.
