Pain, not the physical kind, but an emotional pain was what Inha felt after the car hit her. She could feel a lone tear trickling as she lost consciousness when the physical pain kicked in. She couldn't protect her babies was the last thought that plagued her mind as she uttered the word Wonwoo before she closed her eyes.
Wonwoo was sitting next to Dino on the couch when the call came from Inha’s phone.
“Yes sweeth…” he was interrupted by a man on the other side.
“Sir I am a police officer speaking, your number was listed as the emergency contact. The woman to whom this phone belongs to has met with an accident. Is she your wife?”
Wonwoo felt like someone was strangling him. He just couldn't believe what he heard. He felt an intense pain in his chest as he fell down from the couch, landing on his knees.
“Hyung, hyung, what happened? Oh my God, Joshua hyung, someone please come here” Dino shrieked as he tried to calm Wonwoo who was sweating and palpitating. Quickly Joshua took charge and retrieved the phone from Wonwoo's hand and spoke to the police officer on the other side.
“Ireona, Wonwoo get up. Dino help him please. We need to go to the hospital immediately” Joshua said, his voice surprisingly calm. As an eldest, he really put up a calm facade to not scare his dongsaengs. But inside, he was an absolute mess. His found brother’s wife had been taken to the hospital and Joshua didn't know what to do or how to calm Wonwoo.
“The babies. What about the babies?” Ayat, who was strolling near the pool trying to put her son to sleep, barged in through the French windows. “I saw Inha going out with the babies. What about them?” She asked, coming near the three men.
“The police officer didn't tell me anything about the babies. Are you sure Ayat?” Joshua asked his childhood friend.
“Yes, I was in the balcony when I saw her leave with the babies in the stroller” she said, exasperatedly. “Okay, Josh listen, take Wonwoo to the hospital, I'll find out what I can. Okay? God! I hope they all are safe.”
Ayat then left to brief Taha about the situation and the couple hurriedly went to the police station to let them know about the twins. Meanwhile Joshua somehow brought a shocked Wonwoo to the hospital with Dino’s help. The others including Inha’s dad and cousin Jeha also came once they heard the news and they were all waiting for Inha to come out safely from her surgery. The doctor had said that she had suffered a concussion along with minor fractures along her legs. But he had also said that with rehab, she'll be able to walk as it wasn't life altering.
The members were waiting outside the operating room when Ayat came with her husband along with two detectives. They had questions for Wonwoo.
“Wonwoo ya, can you talk? The detectives said they need to talk to you to find the babies”
“Ne” he replied feebly as he got up and followed the detectives.
“Sir, in the CCTV footage, your wife was seen to have pushed the stroller away before the car hit her. We found the stroller in the bush next to the accident spot, but the babies are nowhere to be found. Do you have any idea who could be behind the accident and the abduction?”
“My wife's stepmother” he said upon hearing the police officer’s findings. That's when Jeha stepped in.
“There is a trial going on against her and she's been missing ever since we filed the suit. She's the only one who could have done this”
“Usually when someone kidnaps children they'll make some demands. Did you receive any threatening messages like that sir?” The police officer asked Wonwoo and that's when Wonwoo realized that he hadn't checked his phone ever since he got the dreaded call that Inha was met with an accident.
“My phone, it is with Joshua hyung” he said and called him over. “Hyung, my phone. Give me my phone”
Then Wonwoo showed his phone to the police officer. There hadn't been any messages yet.
“Do you think this Kim Sumi person staged this abduction to gain leverage to walk free from the trial? That could also be the demand right” The police officer came up with a reasonable deduction. “Mostly it will be that along with demands of a safe corridor to leave the country” the officer said. “Whatever the demand is, you shouldn't act rashly without our knowledge. We assure you that we'll be with every step of the way to rescue your twins sir.” He said bowing to Wonwoo. “One of the detectives will be stationed with you in the hospital. Please inform us the moment you get any call or message. Thank you” he said and left.
Meanwhile, Inha’s father was frantically trying to call Sumi’s number but it was switched off.
“That wench! I should have cut her off the moment she laid hands on my daughter. No, I shouldn't have even taken her in” he screamed uncontrollably and Jeha was trying to console his uncle.
“Everything will be fine Hyung” it was Dino who placed his hand upon Wonwoo's to console him and that's when Wonwoo broke down. Woozi sat down next to him and hugged the man who was sobbing.
“My Inha, my poor babies. I swore I'd protect them but oh God!” He was sobbing uncontrollably.
Around two hours later the doctors came out. Wonwoo was in no position to ask how the surgery went, so Seungcheol took charge and the doctor told him the details.
“Thankfully the concussion wasn't severe. So we were able to fix the area where her skull was broken. She'll be able to gain consciousness in a day or two. And only after that we'll be able to schedule surgery for her fractures. For now we have stabilized her”
Seungcheol thanked the doctors. Only then the members heaved a sigh of relief. But Wonwoo couldn't be fine. He was now a young father whose kids are missing. But at least he still had his wife who'll support him in his rescue efforts. Even though she is still unconscious, just having her by his side was enough for Wonwoo to find his babies. And just then, his phone pinged and he opened the message only to drop his phone in a loud thud which alerted the members and the detective.
The picture he received was brutal enough to shake the ever strong Seungcheol too. A picture of the innocent babies next to a curling iron, and a message that read
Come alone if you want to save them
