"Let’s do one thing since baba and uncle are together, I’ll go and try to talk to my dad in private. Meanwhile Raj, you try to keep uncle busy. If I can somehow convince my father, then he will be able to talk to uncle."
“Ok, let’s do it, Chavi you don’t worry we will try our best” Raj said, wiping tears off her face, “you go back inside, we will go to the puja pandal”
“okay”, She told Raj, and looked at me. I gave her hand a soft squeeze of assurance. Then we walked out.
Once we reached there, it was easy to find out our fathers. There are indeed a lot of benefits of being rich, one of them is that you have a say in everything as long as you put some money in it. Our fathers were sitting with the management committee and they were buttering them.
“oh look our kids are here”, Baba said in a joyous tone.
I looked at Raj, we nodded to each other in agreement to follow our plan. My dad is not as conservative as uncle, when it comes to his daughter, he has always encouraged Shikha to learn new things and study well but there is indeed a boundary that she can do anything she wants but in the state limit. So now there are two things, Firstly this is for his daughter, I still don’t know if he would allow this for her daughter in law and secondly if he can’t allow her daughter to go to a different state then how would I convince him to send Chavi to Delhi. Especially since it's Delhi. Our business is across India and we even export to 12 different countries. If it was for a month or two, I would have made some excuse to go to Delhi for work purposes and he wouldn't have any objection if I wanted to take Chavi along with me but it’s for 2 damn years.
I had to try either way. We walked towards our father and took a seat, after around 20 minutes of discussion on how everything will be arranged and who all are attending the puja.
“Ok, let’s talk about Karthik and Chavi’s marriage”, Uncle said
“yeah” baba replied in excitement
“Dad, I have something important to talk to you” I interrupted
“What else could be more important than your marriage”, He was still in excitement. “Oh my son, I can’t believe, you have grown up and I am really proud of you," he addressed everyone, "you know, Karthik was still 18, when he joined me in business 7 years ago, as a fresh college going student. He started from a normal sales manager position so no one can put the nepotism tag on him and within a few years he proved himself capable of handling the business. He made my multi-millionaire company worth a billion dollars today. It was all because of him.” I was happy to hear that but right now Chavi’s matter was more important, I can hear everything else later.
“Thank you Dad, but it’s something very important, we need to talk right now.” I said, this time in a very serious tone to explain the depth of the matter.
“What is it beta?”, uncle interrupted. “Dad, maybe it’s something personal, how about we go and take a lot at the mandap (stage of marriage)” Raj distracted him.
I realized the opportunity and came out with my dad.
