-Avery-
"Hey, guys. I'm Asher. Asher Allen." I stand there, stunned, and wondering why he was here.
"H-Hey. I'm Avery," I stutter.
"I'm Maya," Maya says from beside me.
"I'm Brook," someone says from behind me.
"And you already know me, douchebag," Monica scoffs from behind me.
"Nice to meet everyone. I just wanted to come over here and introduce myself to everyone and maybe get some of your numbers. Just incase, you know." I mentally roll my eyes at the last part. He was just trying to be smooth.
I hear Monica sigh heavily and walk off, arms folded.
"Yeah, of course," Maya laughs. I walk back inside as they exchange numbers.
"Monica, I'm going to go hangout with your brother. Want to come? I don't really want to be here right now," I ask grabbing my phone.
"No, I'm going to stay and make sure Asher doesn't sleep with any of them on the first day," she says as she leans against the bed, watching them socialize on the porch.
"Okay, that would be a smart idea. See you later."
I walk out the door, purposely shoving my shoulder into Asher's on the way out. He wants to be bold, I can be bold too. He probably doesn't even know who I am, but two can play at this game. I can promise you that much.
I rush down the path to the cabin. I knock heavily on the door to be greeted by a glum guy.
"Hey, is Lake here?"
"Yeah. Come in."
I nod and walk silently inside.
"I'm Avery," I say coolly.
"Figured. Lake and Asher were fighting over you earlier. I'm River."
"Nice to meet you. Wait, they were fighting over me?"
"More like about you. It was super annoying to hear them go on and on. Lake was defending you, I think? I don't know. I don't really care," he shrugs brushing off the subject.
"Oh, well thanks for telling me, I guess," I tell him while silently climbing the ladder to sit on Lake's bed. River nods and walks off. The only thing that worries me about the bed is that it has no railing for the top bunk. None of them do. What if someone were to... fall?
Suddenly I hear a rustling noise and the sound of a door opening.
"Hey, River, do you know where all the snacks-" he pauses looking up at me. "Why hello, Avery," he says sending me a gentle grin. River says something to him but I couldn't hear.
"Hey. Thought I'd come and hang out with you. The girls at the cabin are swooning over Asher and I was about to puke," I say with a smile.
"Well, I'm glad you'd rather hangout with me than be with that asshole," he laughs. He rests his hand on the mattress for a moment before a look of confusion takes over. "Wait, why are you on my bed?" he asks looking up at me.
"I honestly don't really know why," I laugh. "I should probably get down though."
He reaches up to grab my waist and help me down off the bed. I land roughly and my feet sting a little, but I'm fine. I flash Lake a small smile.
"So what do you want to do?" Lake chuckles walking out the cabin door.
"We could just walk around the camp. Training doesn't start until tomorrow, you know."
