Chapter 14

Freen woke up to the sound of her alarm clock ringing hysterically. In her mind, this was not like any other day. This was the start of her day but with another new person in her life, a person her son is so attached to.

She reached for the alarm to turn it off and quietly made her way to the bathroom to shower. A few minutes later, she went to make breakfast before returning to her room to wake her son.

"Finn luk, wake up... Finn, baby, it's time to get up na." Freen tried to call him. She opened the curtains, allowing the soft rays to enter and hit his rested eyelids.

Finn squirmed in his sheets and brought his hands to his eyes. "Mai... I don't want to go to school." He turned his back to his mother and pulled the covers up to his chest, as if he was anchored to his bed so he couldn't get up and leave.

Freen sat on the edge of the bed and ran her fingers through his hair. Then, she leaned forward and tickled the young man in an attempt to wake him up, and he did with a loud laugh.

"Mae, stop it!" Her son cried out through his laughter.

Then Freen stopped and looked at the other girl. "Shh... Becbec is still sleeping na, don't wake her up." She murmured softly. She then lifted him up with her arms and made him sit up as he stared at her blankly with his sleepy eyes and his mouth open. He just remembered that there was another person sleeping in the bed with them last night, his BFF, Becbec.

"Mae... doesn't she have to go to school too?" Her son asked, looking in the direction of the sleeping girl.

"I don't know, baby, maybe she goes to a special school, or maybe she is homeschooled? Her mother didn't tell me and I forgot to ask her." Freen replied.

"What is homeschooling?" Finn asked out of curiosity.

"It means that they don't have to go to school, that they are learning at home instead of going to school." Freen explained to him, throwing her arms around her son and holding him tight, giving him all the love and warmth she could. "Now, come on na, get out of bed and go to the bathroom." She ordered, pulling the cover off Finn's body, as his legs spread out in the middle of the bed as he looked at his sleeping BFF.

"Come on, baby, get out of bed and go into the bathroom. Brush your teeth, take a shower, and get ready for school and I'll meet you at the table for breakfast. Uncle Mario will be here any minute na.." Freen ordered.

Freen walked into the kitchen to set the table and Finn walked into the bathroom, pulled out a small stool and stood on it to reach the counter and look at the mirror. Brushing his teeth thoroughly before he jumped into the hot shower. 15 minutes later he was dressed in his uniform and gelled his hair into little spikes. Once he was happy with his style, he joined Freen at the breakfast table.

Sitting at the table, he looked at his Mae. "Mae kub, can I stay home? Please, please?" He asked as he ate his cereal. "I want to stay home and play with Becbec."

Freen took a deep breath to gather patience and ponder her son's question. After trying her best to figure out the best way to tell him and convince him that he was still going to see his BFF later after school, Mario rang the bell, reminding Finn that it was his time to leave.

Given up, he headed for the door and Freen quickly grabbed his backpack as she walked over to sulking Finn who was at the door. "Didn't you forget something?" She asked.

Finn sighed and ran up to her, taking the bag from Freen's hand and kissed her on the cheeks. "Please be nice to Becbec, Mae. Don't get mad at her or anything, okay kub?" He said, and Freen looked at him in awe of her little boy's maturity.
