KAI WAS HAVING an unusually good day. He had successfully turned the underground bunker into his own private space without Pops catching on.

Only Kurono and a few of his more trustworthy subordinates were in the loop. Not that all his subordinates deserved that trust—one of them had just tried to snitch to Pops earlier.

Kai had handled that swiftly. Using his quirk, he reduced the traitor to a mess of blood right in front of the remaining subordinates, leaving a vivid warning splattered across the bunker walls.

"Good, maybe they'll finally learn," he thought, glancing at their wide-eyed expressions. He was doing them a favor, really. They didn't seem to realize how draining it was for him to use his quirk, the toll it took each time. It wasn't like he wanted to spill blood—he just needed to make sure they understood.

His plan was slowly starting to come together—a world where he could live with you and Pops, free from the filth that surrounded them. It tortured him to see you so determined to become a hero, especially since your father was a prominent pro hero himself, only pushing your dreams further into the spotlight.

But he knew that if anything were to happen to your father, you would never forgive him. The thought of seeing that look of betrayal on your face was unbearable. So, he tried to accept yet another stranger in your life, despite the growing unease gnawing at him.

But something felt off to Kai. That nagging feeling prompted him to leverage his yakuza connections, instructing Kurono to dig up some dirt on your family. He needed to know who you were truly tied to, what secrets might lurk beneath the surface.

With your visit approaching, Kai glanced down at himself, grimacing at the filth that clung to his skin. He couldn't face you like this. Without wasting a moment, he sprinted to the shower, scrubbing his flesh until it gleamed, each pass of the washcloth a desperate attempt to cleanse not just his body but also the dark thoughts that loomed in his mind.

"KAIIII!" You ran up to him, arms wide and eyes gleaming. To you, he seemed healthier, happier—a good sign. Maybe if you kept pushing your influence on him, he might abandon the whole project altogether.
