I listen to the clanking of chains around my wrists as I am walked down an echoey, dirty hallway. My barefoot feet hitting the cold floor with every step, I cringe at the sound of metal dragging on the concrete. I almost trip over the long, bright orange pants I am forced to wear and the shirt they gave me hangs off my body with no comfort. How did I get here? I think to myself as I look through each cell I walk by and wonder when it's going to stop. Surrounded by other delinquents who have no one to bail them out of juvie, I breathe as I'm walked to the end of the hall.
Placed in a cell with no windows, only a wooden furniture surrounding the small room, I sit on the bed as the chains are taken from my wrists. In place, gloves are shoved onto my hands and forcefully tightened so they can't be removed. I sit back on the bed and wait in silence for the guard to leave.
What feels like hours go past as I'm alone in the cell and all I have to do is ponder. How did I really end up here?
Well, I accidentally blew up my school's cafeteria; and then I hid from the cops. That's a good start. Probably shouldn't have done that. And then I illegally stole technology from Stark Industries warehouse to build a suit. Also stupid; shouldn't have done that either. Although, I wonder what they did with the suit. . . that was hard to make. And the arm piece too, I'm not sure if I can remake that.. . I shook my head, trying to rid my thoughts. I don't want to think about this, but my mind isn't letting me think about anything else. And then I used my illegally made suit to fight my brothers best friend who for some reason wanted to extract these powers that I didn't know I had - and I destroyed an entire park in the process - alright, starting to see why I'm sitting here.
I had gone through every part of my life leading up to this moment, sitting in juvie, wondering where it all really went wrong. And of course, my parents weren't going to bail be out any time soon. Well, step-parents. I'm sure my real parents would. Maybe. I actually don't know. But what I do know is that I need to figure out how to control these powers of mine. I don't know where they came from, but I somehow control the elements of earth. I can create fire, manipulate water, and control wind. Or, that's all I've figured out so far. I wonder if they're ever going to take these itchy gloves off of -
"Tyler Davis," a voice called out from the hallway and I hear the lock of a door. I put my head off, not sure who to expect. "You've been released," said the man. It was a security guard, and behind him, a tall man with an eye patch.
This is so much worse than the cell.
"Tyler Davis," said the man with one eye, "My name is Nick Fury. I'm here to bail you out." He stood with no emotion. I slowly got up from the bench and followed the man out. "You can lose the gloves, you don't need those," he said. I had one of the guards take them off for me.
I didn't speak a word until we got outside. He handed me a bag of my stuff - clothes, phone, purse - and led me to the roof where a private jet stand surrounded by men in suits. I stopped in my tracks.
"What's wrong? Never seen a jet before?" said the man. He laughed and walked over to me.
"Who are you?" I asked. I should have asked sooner. He gave me a half smile.
"I'll tell you on the jet."
"Am I just supposed to follow a stranger onto a private jet? Where is it going? And who are they?" I asked sternly. Still suspicious of the man and his jet, I hesitantly walk forward.
"Trust me, you're safer on this jet than anywhere in the world," he said. He could see my hesitancy and continued. "This jet is taking us to New York."
At some point I figured it couldn't get worse from here, so I got on the jet. About 20 minutes of silence went by as the men in suits ran around the jet while Nick Fury and I sat at one of the tables. He was looking between me and some packet.
