A week had passed, and Jin sat on the couch pouting, worry gnawing at him. He knew something was off with Jungkook. The usual coldness had intensified into a wall of silence. Jungkook was always distant, but at least he used to engage in conversation with Jin. Now, it felt like he was avoiding him altogether, and it left Jin feeling confused and anxious.
Taehyung had tried to talk to him, to calm him down, but Jin couldn't shake the feeling that something was seriously wrong. The house felt too quiet, too empty without Jungkook's presence. Just then, their attention was diverted when the front door creaked open.
Jin's heart skipped a beat when he saw Jungkook step inside, but something was different. Jungkook had a small smile on his face—nothing too bright, but enough to catch Jin off guard. It felt foreign and oddly comforting. But what really caught Jin's attention was the person standing beside him.
“Mum!” Jungkook called out, his voice almost cheerful.
“Jungkook? Oh my! Who is this pretty guy?” Mrs. Jeon exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Jin felt an odd sensation in his stomach, a mix of apprehension and intrigue. Mrs. Jeon had the same reaction upon seeing Jimin that she had when Taehyung first brought Jin home. It was as if he was witnessing a déjà vu, the cycle of admiration for beautiful boys repeating itself.
“Mom, stop overacting. He's Jimin, my best friend,” Jungkook said, rolling his eyes playfully.
Jimin stepped forward, his short stature contrasting with Jungkook’s taller frame. He smiled brightly and bowed slightly, his charm radiating. “Hello there, aunty! You are one pretty lady,” Jimin said, winking, which sent a flurry of excitement through Mrs. Jeon.
“Oh my, what a flirt!” Mrs. Jeon exclaimed, her heart clearly fluttering. “You must come over more often, Jimin!”
As Jimin chatted amiably with Mrs. Jeon, Jin felt an unfamiliar pang of jealousy gnawing at him. Why was he feeling this way? He forced himself to observe Jungkook, who seemed a bit more at ease in Jimin's company. There was a lightness in Jungkook’s demeanor that Jin hadn’t seen in a while, and it both intrigued and frustrated him.
“Jungkook,” Jin finally spoke, trying to mask his emotions. “You’ve been… different lately.”
Jungkook turned to face him, the smile fading slightly as he looked at Jin. “Different how?”
“I don’t know. Just… you haven’t talked to me,” Jin said, crossing his arms defensively. “What’s going on?”
Jungkook hesitated, glancing at Jimin before responding. “I’ve been busy, that’s all.”
“Busy?” Jin echoed, not buying it. “With what? You used to share everything with me.”
Jimin, sensing the tension, stepped back, sensing it was better to let the brothers sort out their issues. “I can give you guys some space if you want,” he offered, flashing a reassuring smile.
“No, it’s fine,” Jungkook said quickly. “I—”
“Maybe you should just be honest with him, Kook,” Jimin interrupted, his tone light yet serious. “It’s better than avoiding the problem.”
Jungkook shot Jimin a quick look, but the latter’s suggestion hung in the air. Jin felt a spark of hope; maybe this was the moment Jungkook would open up to him.
Jungkook sighed, looking torn between wanting to share and the hesitation that held him back. “I’ve just been trying to figure some things out,” he admitted slowly. “It’s been hard… and I didn’t want to drag you into it.”
