Days passed swiftly, and Meghna found herself enjoying college life with her new friends, Adam and Hazel. Although she spoke to others, it was only Adam and Hazel with whom she felt truly comfortable.
Her studies were going well, and she spent a lot of time focusing on them even at the mansion, trying to keep herself busy and avoid thinking about Agastya and their engagement.
At college, she made a habit of removing her engagement ring and slipping it into her pocket. She wanted to keep that part of her life hidden, but back at the mansion, she always wore the ring. She didn't fully trust Agastya, his people, or the environment around her.
A month had passed, and Meghna continued to stay in touch with her brother and sister-in-law regularly, but she never received a call from Agastya.
Surprisingly, she was relieved by his silence. She didn't want him to reach out, but deep down, in a corner of her heart, a small part of her wondered how he was doing. Still, she refused to acknowledge it, determined not to admit to herself that she cared even the slightest bit.
Meghna was quietly studying during her free lecture, but Adam kept interrupting her.
"Meghna, you know you're no fun. Why do you always start studying in your free time?"
He asked, clearly frustrated.
Meghna sighed, looking up at him. "Then what should I do?"
She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You never come with us to any clubs. It's always straight from the university to home. Plus, you never even invite us to your place,"
He complained, still trying to get her to loosen up.
Meghna sighed deeply, closing her notebook, clearly realizing she wasn't going to get any peace.
"Adam, I'm here to study, not party,"
She replied with a hint of exasperation in her voice.
Adam crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair, a playful smirk on his face. "Come on, Meghna! You've been here for a month, and all you do is study. No clubs, no hanging out after class. You always rush home. It's like you're hiding something from us."
She felt a pang of discomfort at his words. He wasn't wrong; she had avoided inviting them to the mansion, fearing that Agastya's world would become more visible to her new friends. She didn't want them to see that side of her life.
"I'm not hiding anything,"
She replied a little too quickly.
"It's just that I have responsibilities and priorities. You know, keeping up with my studies."
Adam gave her a knowing look.
"Responsibilities are important, but you're allowed to have fun too, Meghna. Life can't be all books and lectures."
