[Shelly steps out of the elevator to find Astro sitting on a beanbag, curled up with a book gripped between his blanket-covered hands.]

1st Person: SHELLY

"Whatcha' reading? I'd like to see!" I say, leaning down and placing a finger on the page.

"Uuummmm.." He closes the book gingerly and checks the spine. "Well, it says "How to Make a Pet Pebble at Home. That's what it is."

"So.. you want to recreate Pebble? Not sure how Dandy would feel about that one..!" I give a wave of my finger and turn around. "You know, I have to go now. I promised Cosmo I'd get him a box of chocolates.. it's his birthday today, yeah?"

Astro nods and reopens the book. "Mmhm. Don't worry, I'll see you then." He flips from page to page silently, and I linger there before walking away. I don't want to leave him, I'm scared.

What if I encounter a twisted and I'm all alone..?? I don't know if I can run much more.. my legs are tired. I stay where I can see Astro and begin roaming around the floor. I can't find a box of chocolate, but I suppose 3 chocolates will have to do just the same.
Maybe if I put them in a box..

I hear coughing, then a dry heave. I jump.
Fuck. Is that a twisted? I begin slowly creeping away from where I'm standing, defensively clutching my chocolates in my hands.
"You okay?" I call. The sound gets louder, and closer.
DOUBLE fuck. I alerted whatever it is to my location.
"I.. I hate y-you. And.. I will.. do nothing.. I mean, stop at nothing to.." Another cough.
It's Shrimpo. Well, twisted Shrimpo. And that is the only cue I need to start running. I weave around boxes and machines, all the way up the stairs to the elevator.
"Fuck.. Astro, we need.." I pause to take a breath as I kneel down on the floor besides him. He eyes me, concerned.

"We need to get out of here, Shrimpo. He knows we're here." I huff out, gripping my skirt. It's dirtied from sitting on the floor. I briefly dust it off before rising and grabbing Astro's book.

"Hey, earth to Astro! You heard me?" I cry out, shaking him lightly.
"Eh? Huh.. OH, yeah! Sorry. I was falling asleep there. Give me a second, we still need to do that last machine." He puts the book he's holding down and points to the room alongside the elevator, which holds a half-finished machine.
"Uh, I can get it.." I begin standing, but Astro shakes his head.
"You stay, rest. I'll get it." He says, nodding at me.
"Ah.. okay. Be careful, please.." I respond, gratefully sinking into the beanbag he had just left.

Before walking off, he creates a glowing blue circle that calms me. It seems to make me less tired, and though it fades quickly, I feel renewed and more energized. His power. Using it often makes him more tired, and I feel bad.

"Thanks, Astro." But he's already gone. I hear the faint splosh of Ichor dropping in the machine not too far away from me. At least he's safe.
I rise and stand at the elevator as it begins gently creaking open. Astro begins running in my direction as I step in.
"Astro, what are you running for? It's okay, save your energy-" I stop as I realize what he's running for. Shrimpo is chasing him, coughing and hacking while swinging at him.
"ASTRO!" I cry, scrambling out of the elevator to fend off Shrimpo as Astro slips into the elevator.
Shrimpo grabs my arm and prepares to attack, but I spring into the elevator behind Astro before he can do anything.
And with the most satisfying CLANG ever, the elevator closes and I release a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
"Um.. thanks for what you did back there, Shelly. It wasn't really needed, I mean.. I was doing fine, honestly." Astro says, turning to see what Dandy has now.
"You're welcome." I say proudly, sidling up next to him as I lean over Dandy's counter.

"Hi, hi! Hello guys, the finest goods right here, at my shop! Interested?" Dandy chirps, leaning his head on one hand. We're only one of the many elevators he has to visit, but he keeps the wide smile on his face, not showing any sign of exhaustion.
I peruse his selection, my mouth tilting down into a frown.
"Well! Your selection is lovely.. but not to my liking, I'm afraid." I offer him my sweetest smile and turn to Astro.
We exchange a knowing glance- no use telling Dandy his selection sucks or anything, because that'll only make him more angry.
Dandy's smile falters for a second but he returns to normal, nodding in understanding.
"I see. Well, I'll be back another time so.. Maybe you'll be interested then?" he presses hopefully.
"Yes, of course! Maybe." I smile again and wave.
He begins descending, but then I remember.
"WAIT!"

He pauses and elevates his shop again.
"What do you want? I have customers to get to." He grumbles. He steeples his hands on his desk and gives me a glare. "So?"
"Uh- Sorry to delay you, sir! But I have a question. You see, I have these chocolates I'm saving for Cosmo because it's his birthday, and I was wondering if you could hold them for me? Or maybe even deliver them to him, if he's on one of the elevators right now." I hold out my chocolate-filled arms and Dandy plucks the chocolates out.
"I see. Storage, eh.. one, two.. three.. That'll be 20 tapes to hold it, and 50 to deliver." He says, stuffing the chocolates into a compartment in his desk.
"Ah.. Well, I have 49 tapes. Would that work..?" I pause, giving a feeble grin.
"Fine. But you owe me 1 more the next time I come by." He gives a salute and pulls a lever which plunges him and his shop into the darkness below.
Shortly after the doors on the floor close and lock. Dandy is gone now.

Astro is looking at me when I turn around, but he turns and acts like it was nothing when I notice.
"That was.. brave, hm..?" Astro says meekly, pulling his blankets tighter around himself and shivering. "Boy, it's cold in here.."
