They were alone, they were close.
He was wounded, sitting and leaning against a wall and she was in front of him healing him. He had managed to transport them to one of Orochimaru's lairs.
He took the opportunity to look at her in the low light as much as he could, while she was focused on hiswound.
He hadn't seen her smile since he had returned, she seemed a little more melancholic to him.
He thought she was beautiful
He had missed her when he was away but strangely now that they had met again he felt like he missed her even more.
When he returned he came to realize that he couldn't stand it if Sarada didn't remember him, if she didn't recognize him. He had gotten used to it with the others and with the exception of Himawari he no longer cared, he was prepared for those who had been his friends to think of him as a traitor, to detest him, but Sarada was different.
He had thought a lot about her and although he felt guilty for what had happened with Sasuke and because he knew that she had also had a bad time those 3 years, he couldn't help but be selfish and feel thankful that she was the one who remembered him.
He had been nervous to meet her again. He owed her everything. How could he just come and tell her that Sasuke had sacrificed himself for him, that she had lost him because of him?
Of all the reactions he imagined she could have, he never dared to think that she would receive him like that, with a hug.
In an instant she had managed to undo the progress of those 3 years in which he had learned not to need anyone, to isolate himself and to put up barriers to protect himself from his life of loneliness.
A hug from her was all it took for those barriers to crumble and leave him longing to be even closer than they had been.
She seemed to notice that he couldn't take his eyes off her and looked at him too, only that she was staring intensely at the scar on his eye.
He knew she felt guilty. He didn't understand why it bothered her so much when he practically considered that scar a trophy, evidence that he had kept the promise he had made to protect her
Especially now that he knew what the alternative could have been.
- "I'm so sorry, Boruto" she said quietly.
They were very close, they had already been on a similar situation when they were children, on that occasion he had gotten nervous and after a few moments he had turned away not knowing what to do.
Now he was just as nervous and just as then he didn't know what to do . But now he wanted her even closer.
He had always been fond of her, always cared for her, but they were no longer children and the feeling was different now.
- "I'm not"
She surprised him by giving him the most delicate kiss on the eyelid, the briefest of moments, her lips almost imperceptible. But she had gotten closer than ever and he couldn't help but respond almost by reflex.
He gave her a kiss just as delicate, just as brief, but on the mouth.
Just a second, just a touch of lips to see her reaction
Her lips were as soft as they looked
He looked at her intensely but she just sighed in surprise, lowered her gaze and closed her eyes.
She didn't leave. He decided to take it as a good sign
He knew he had just crossed a big line, a limit from which there was no turning back.
He wanted to do it again
- "Sarada"
She opened her eyes but still didn't look at him.
- "Look at me"
She looked at him
He got lost in her deep gaze for a few moments. He wanted to say something to her but he didn't know what, or how, his desire betrayed him and his gaze lowered to her lips again.
Making his intentions more than clear
He approached once again
He kissed her softly again, hoping that she would reciprocate.
And when she did and he felt the soft caress of her lips moving against his he was overwhelmed by the feeling he had been searching for again, the same one he had felt when she had hugged him.
He saw her smile for only a second because when the kiss ended she immediately hid her face, leaning on his shoulder and stayed there with him in silence.
She was special to him, he still didn't know how to tell her and she didn't say anything to him either but they understood each other well without words.
