"Grandma, Grandma! Look I found this really cool old diary in the attic, it has a bunch of pictures too! Can you read it to me?"
The young girl shouted excitedly jumping up and down in her light pink dress, with long sleeves and ruffles at the end. Her pigtails adorned with two pink big bows.
Also wearing a necklace with a single pearl on it, that bounces against her collarbone.
The young girl runs straight to a room and opens the creaky old door, with a bounce in her steps straight toward an old lady, she's wearing an old worn out, dark blue cardigan with a long matching dark blue dress and old beige sandals, her long gray hair in a French braid and is sitting in the corner, rocking back and forth in a rocking chair, covered with a thick wool blanket, quietly reading a book. The old woman, presumably her grandmother, sits up and looks up at her granddaughter and smiles lovingly at her.
"Now dear, what did you find this time?"
The grandmother asks curious about what her granddaughter dug up this time for her to read to her.
"I dont know what it is... But it looks super cool!"
The young girl adds handing her grandmother an old book, before running around the room, barely containing her energy and excitement of her finding.
The old woman watches her in adoration and leans back into her rocking chair, rocking back and forth with a soft creak, finally deciding to look at what her granddaughter gave her this time. She stares at the old rusty book and blows the dust off it, her eyes widening at the recognition of the book.
Tears slowly gather in her crinkly old eyes, but she hastily blinks them away, so her granddaughter doesn't take note and opens it, careful of anything spilling out.
The pages are full of notes, written diary entries, little scribbles and most importantly a lot of glued in letters and a picture.
The photo album or better diary only includes one envelope that hasn't been opened yet, the corners are crinkled, the edges yellowed and no information about the content visible.
She takes the one picture and looks at it, softly brushing over it, turning it around and reading the writing on it.
The picture reads:"Jolene and Jude, stargazing in Central park"
-July 1st, 1963The picture is black and white, the corner yellowed and crinkled, showing its old age.
The woman smiles surprised at the beautiful memory resurfacing her mind, the photo shows a young woman, lying on the grass, in a typical '60s dress that is knee-length and fitted with a cinched waist and a full skirt, presumably a pastel color like yellow or pink. Right beside her holding hands, is a young man in bell-bottom jeans with a patterned shirt.
The young man is staring at the woman with love clearly written in his eyes, as the woman stares in awe at the crystal-clear view of the night sky, full of stars.
The old woman puts the photo away in the notebook and closes it with a thud. She then gets out the envelope, opening it carefully as to not damage the content inside it. She holds out the letter in front of her seemingly confused because she hadn't know of it before and silently reads it, by the time she's finished reading, she wipes away a single tear and calls out to her granddaughter, who got distracted, playing with some dolls in the corner of the room."Come here sweetie!" The grandmother motions with her hand, the little girl excitedly running to her, knowing that that hand motion probably meant an exciting bedtime story of the sort.
She sits down cross-legged in front of her grandmother on the carpeted floor.
"Is it some boring story about a princess trapped in a tower and being saved by the knight again?"
"No, no nothing of the sort, it's a story about how a love story changed the world forever."
The woman explained to her granddaughter.
"Wow really?! Why didn't you tell me about this before?! I would've loved hearing it!"
The little girl almost jumps again in anticipation.
The woman holds her finger against her lip and shushes her effectively, She quiets down almost immediately and listens with anticipation to her grandmother.
"Now, lets start at the very beginning, shall we?"______________________________________
