Apologizing with a thorn branch? Xu Zhen certainly wasn't going to make it formal. She casually picked up a branch, tied it to her back, pretending it was the real deal.

Weak sunlight slipped into the room. Xu Zhen stood at the door, fastening a white ribbon to secure the branch on her back, tying a knot at her chest.

Sensing movement behind her, she turned to see Little Beggar awake. She smiled at her, like a swordsman ready for battle, bright and spirited.

"You're awake?"

Little Beggar nodded.

Xu Zhen pulled out a piece of flatbread from her pocket, offering it, "Want some bread?"

Little Beggar shook her head, "No."

Xu Zhen put the bread away, took a bite herself, and after eating most of it, said to Little Beggar, "I'm going to Li Sanlang's house today; you knew that, right?"

Little Beggar nodded, "I know."

Xu Zhen smiled, "So you'll go to school by yourself today; I won't be with you."

Little Beggar tugged at her sleeve.

Xu Zhen asked, "What's wrong?"

Little Beggar slowly said, "Together."

Xu Zhen chuckled, "You have to go to class; we can't go together."

Little Beggar insisted, "Together."

Xu Zhen wrapped the bread again, crouched down to pat her head, "Be good, go to class. You haven't even learned all the characters yet, and you're thinking of skipping?"

Hearing this, Little Beggar seemed quite disappointed and lowered her hand.

Xu Zhen wondered if she was being too harsh on her.

But skipping school was something a teacher couldn't condone.

She stood up, pretending not to notice Little Beggar's expression, and looked around.

Little Beggar kept her eyes on her.

Unable to resist, Xu Zhen asked, "Do you really want to go?"

Little Beggar nodded.

Xu Zhen found it odd, "Why? Are you unfamiliar with the school? Haven't made friends? Or is it because you didn't finish yesterday's homework? I forgot to check your homework yesterday. Did you understand Mr. Zhao's lesson in the morning?"

Little Beggar said, "I understood."

Then she took a few steps back, ran to her room, and returned with a sheet of Xuan paper, her pale white legs barely visible under her skirt, shimmering like silk.

Standing before Xu Zhen, she held up the paper for her to see.

It was filled with complete homework answers, showing significant improvement and no typos.

Xu Zhen hung the towel on the wall, took the paper, and praised, "Well done."

She flipped to the next page, and at the end, it read, "The general's fame shatters after a hundred battles, the warrior's tears clear as iron."
