"Rover," Shorekeeper looked at you, extending her hand out to you, "will you accompany me by the shores?" She asked.
"Sure." Rover smiled, taking her hand.
Shorekeeper smiled back at you. She took you to the nearby shores.
It was empty, but beautiful. The glowing neon tide pushing up against the dull black sand, the soft moonlight reflecting off the clear sea. Everything seemed like a fantasy at that moment.
"Rover..."
"What is it?" You asked.
She looked worried, no, she looked shy.
"Is something wrong?" You asked again.
"I have already confessed my love for you once, but I can't help wanting to say it again. There's an aching feeling in my chest, like butterflies in my stomach whenever I see you." She paused. "But standing here with you with puts my mind at ease, although I was created for a purpose and drive, you make me forget all of that."
The wind blew gently, flowing through every tiny gap possible. The stars painted the night sky with colorful portraits.
Shorekeeper looked up, at the stars. "I'm like a small star in your large sky. A single butterfly in a garden. Yet.. I still wish to love you with my all, even if it amounts to nothing to you." She stared at the small star in the sky, and the star stared back at her. "The Black Shores will always welcome you, I guess, that's the only way I can show my genuine affection."
"Shorekeeper.." You felt a bit guilty, you couldn't love her back, you didn't know anything about her, nor did you know yourself.
She closed her eyes, taking in the breeze. "You don't have to do anything." She smiled softly. "We have already received a lot from you."
You didn't say anything, you didn't want to ruin the mood, but you spoke anyways, "what's your name, Shorekeeper? I've been calling you "Shorekeeper" for a long time, but that's not your name, is it?"
Her eyes widened, her gaze turned towards you. 'My name...?' She had always been called "Shorekeeper" as the guardian of the Black Shores, but did she have an actual "name"?
"Do you.. not have a name?"
"I don't know... I've always been "Shorekeeper"..."
"How about I give you a name?" You offered.
"A- a name...?" She flushed slightly. Pushing her hair behind her slowly, she spoke while avoiding your gaze, "I would be honored to receive a name from you, Rover."
"How about ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ?" Rover suggested. "Or ☐ ☐ ☐ ☐ ?"
She smiled, "whatever you choose, I'll accept and cherish it forever. Thank you, Rover." She gazed back at the stars, this time, she gazed at a larger star, "I will continue on with my path, with the name you have given me, I will walk a path created by you, Rover. Thank you."
