Margie Bianco, known as La Perla Bianca (lit. the White Pearl), was born Margherita Roberti in 1914 to a powerful Brooklyn crime family. She's a second-generation American immigrant of southern Italian/Sicilian descent. As the cherished daughter of notorious mob boss Carmine Roberti, Margie grew up accustomed to wealth, status and the inner workings of the criminal underworld.
In 1933, at age 19, she was strategically married to Eugenio "Gene" Bianco, a rising star in a rival mafia family thirteen years her senior. The arranged union was designed to forge a powerful alliance between the two crime syndicates. The following year, she gave birth to their daughter Giovannina, affectionately known as Jean. In 1940, the family welcomed a son, Giacomo "James" Bianco.
Margie's life took a dark turn in 1941 when, at age 27, she was Turned into a vampire under mysterious circumstances. Rumours swirled that Margie herself may have played a role in her husband Eugenio's sudden disappearance around the same time. With her new supernatural powers and her sharply honed intellect, the newly-widowed Margie, always cunning, consolidated power, taking over the reins of the Bianco family's criminal enterprises. Her moniker "La Perla Bianca"—symbolic of her name after marriage—took on new meaning: a rare and luminous pearl on the outside, but with a hardened, impenetrable core, forged under the darkness and pressure of the ruthless criminal world she was born into and prepared for.
