Chapter 5

-Camp.

I woke up to the bright sun in my eyes and the sound of people whispering to each other.

"Where are we going?" I asked Mama.

"What they call 'camp'." Mama replied.

Oh great. I had an unsettling feeling In my stomach that this wasn't going to be a regular kind of camping trip. The guards stood strong with there guns and still like statues, eyeing everyone in the old tattered bus. They were almost emotionless. People were crying while hugging others, trying to accept what has been taken away from there lives. Others were trying to stay strong and telling their family it would be okay, but you knew from the look in their eye that it wasn't a guarantee.

Suddenly the bus jerked to a stop with the slam of the brakes. The bus went dead silent. No one dared to make a sound. I looked out a crack of the boarded up window to see what looked like an abandoned school. Guards lined up that made a path to lead to a door that goes to the schools gym. The doors opened and we got lead out. I stepped in the gym and observed my surroundings. Bunk beds were in rows and benches were around the gym. Others were already in the gym with looks of complete horror on their faces. I held Mamas hand and we sat down on a hard wooden bench. I spotted Eliana and her family and called her over. Her Mom talked to Mama softly and I hear a few sniffles here and there. Eliana and I just sat there on the ground beside each other. A few minutes later we looked at each other. Her eyes were full of tears and her hair was a mess. Despite our filthy clothes and hair we lunged forward and hugged each other. We stayed there got a while just crying and hugging like it was the last day of our lives.

After a while Eliana looked at me with hopeless eyes.

"Do you think at the end everything be okay?" She asked.

I had no choice but to respond truthfully.

" I have no idea. I wish I could tell you yes but I just don't know."

I said.

We lay down on the floor and slept for a while. I woke up later on and looked around. Nothing had seemed to change, except lots of people were sleeping, some just waking up. I looked at Eliana. She looked so peaceful when she slept. I wonder where she was in her dream. It must have been peaceful. I shook her awake and we spoke very little. A while went by of just sleeping and staring around. I went up to Mama and told her that I was starving, but she said there was nothing she could do. She said that we have been here for a day and a half. She kissed my cheek and I sat down again next to Eliana. A few minutes passed, then big German men barged out of the room and were telling young girls to follow him. Most obeyed, but some put up fights. but the Germans always won. They after all were the ones that had the guns. A German came up to me and roughly grabbed my arm. I immediately tried to tug away but his grip was too strong.

"Follow me." He whispered into my ear.

Mama ran up to me along with Eliana. Mama argued to the guard in German and I gave the man a nasty look. He pointed the gun at my back and my mother quickly talked to me.

"Adina, I do not know why, or nor do I want you to go, but he says you have to go with him. He said they are bringing some of the gifted children to a save place. But Adina, always, and I mean always remember who you are. Who the real you is. We will meet again one day. You keep my words."

A tear rolled down my eyes and right when I was going to respond the guard reloaded his gun and shoved me forward, leading me to another room.
