The soft glow of the morning sun seeped through the curtains, bathing the bedroom in a golden hue. Kiyotaka lay on his back, one arm resting beneath his head, while Suzune lay beside him, her head propped up on her hand. For once, the house was quiet—no children bursting in, no immediate responsibilities. It was a moment just for them.
"You're awfully relaxed this morning," Suzune murmured, her voice light but teasing. Her fingers traced gentle patterns on his chest, her nails grazing the firm lines of muscle beneath the fabric of his shirt.
"It's hard not to be," Kiyotaka replied, his tone smooth. "You've been staring at me for the past ten minutes. Do I have something on my face?"
Suzune smirked, shifting closer. "No, but I can think of a few things I'd like to leave there." Her lips hovered near his jawline, close enough for him to feel her breath.
"Is that so?" he replied, one eyebrow quirking in amusement. His free hand found its way to her waist, fingers curling lightly around her hip. "You're bolder than usual today. What's gotten into you?"
She didn't answer right away. Instead, she leaned in, letting her lips barely graze his earlobe. "Maybe it's because I'm married to the most frustratingly composed man alive. It's fun seeing if I can break that calm exterior of yours."
Kiyotaka chuckled softly, his hand sliding up her side, resting just beneath her ribs. "And have you succeeded?"
"Not yet," she admitted with a playful pout. "But there's still time."
He shifted suddenly, rolling onto his side to face her. His hand moved to her back, pulling her closer until their foreheads nearly touched. "You're persistent. I like that about you." His voice dropped slightly, taking on a deeper, more intimate tone.
Suzune's cheeks flushed, but she refused to back down. "You like a lot of things about me," she countered, her fingers now trailing along his jawline.
"You're not wrong," he said, his lips curving into a faint smile. "But I wonder if you like me just as much. Or is it my ability to keep you guessing that keeps you interested?"
She laughed softly, her voice a warm murmur. "Maybe it's both."
Their eyes met, the shared intensity between them enough to make the world outside disappear. Suzune leaned in, her lips brushing his, but instead of a full kiss, she pulled back just enough to leave him wanting more.
"You're teasing," Kiyotaka said, his voice low and almost accusatory.
"Maybe," she whispered, her fingers now toying with the hem of his shirt. "But you don't seem to mind."
He chuckled, his hand moving to cup her cheek. "I don't."
The playful back-and-forth continued until the distant sound of the children stirring in their rooms broke the spell. Suzune sighed, resting her forehead against his.
"Saved by the kids," she murmured with mock disappointment.
Kiyotaka smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Don't worry. The day isn't over yet."
The sunlight poured in more strongly now, gently nudging Kiyotaka and Suzune toward the day's responsibilities. However, neither seemed in a hurry to leave the comfort of their bed. Kiyotaka shifted slightly, his hand brushing Suzune's cheek as a smirk tugged at his lips.
"You know," he murmured, his voice teasing, "we still have time before the kids come knocking. We could just keep going..." His words trailed off, punctuated by a soft kiss he planted on her lips.
Suzune laughed lightly, her cheeks flushing. "Kiyotaka," she said, nudging his chest with a finger, "you know we can't do that. The kids will be up any minute. And besides..." She grinned mischievously. "Why rush when tonight's a sure thing?"
