"Charlotte, are you coming? We have to go!" "I'm almost finished," the black-haired witch called back and tried desperately to put the heavy necklace with the enormous yellow stone around her neck. Still, the clasp kept slipping out of her fingers. "These damn fingernails!" she cursed. "Are you okay?" Amelia stuck her blonde head through the crack in the door. Charlotte shook her head and sighed. "No. I can't put this stupid necklace on because I can't grab anything with these damn fingernails." She waved her fingers before Amelia's nose to emphasise her words and presented her long, pointed nails. "Yes, they're not useful," the blonde laughed. "Come, I'll help you." Charlotte gratefully handed her friend the necklace and turned around so that she could put it on her. Meanwhile, Charlotte pulled the black gloves over her hands, putting the finishing touches on her costume. "Are you ready, sisters?" asked Cornelia, who suddenly appeared in the doorway. "Let's go," grinned Charlotte.

A short drive later, the three friends were standing in front of the house of the evening's hosts. Loud music came from the house, and flickering lights flashed through the windows. It wasn't long before Frida opened the door, grinning from ear to ear. She had teased her wild red curls and tied them into two pigtails. Her white face and clown costume already gave an idea of who she was supposed to be, but the final clue was the red balloon that was tied to her wrist and bobbing happily next to her. "Female Pennywise?" asked Charlotte and Frida nodded with a grin. "I'm glad you recognised it." Frida tilted her head, frowning. "I can't identify your costumes, though. But you look like sisters." Amelia giggled and twisted her lips, which were smeared with fake blood, into a cheeky smile. "That's right. You can think about it a little longer." "We don't want to give it away," Cornelia added, smoothing her black hooded coat. Frida nodded understandingly and invited the trio into the house.

The trio looked around the Sørensen family's spacious house in amazement. The party was well attended. Frida and Hector had apparently spared no expense or effort to decorate the house and provide enough food for their guests. In the corners hung gigantic spider webs with even more gigantic artificial spiders. Enchanted bats flew through the house above the heads of the crowd. Fake blood was stuck to the window panes, including bloody handprints and smears that looked as if someone had been stabbed in front of the window.

Cornelia spotted her boyfriend Lucas at the bar in the kitchen and immediately scurried over to his side. Lucas and a few of his friends had all dressed up as Ghostface. They had pushed the masks up to their foreheads to make it easier to drink. His face lit up when he saw his pretty girlfriend, who was now covered in blood. Charlotte turned away, smiling and shaking her head, as the couple began to kiss. They could never keep their hands off each other for long. Charlotte wanted something like that, too. She fervently hoped that her crush would be at this party today, but she had yet to spot him in the crowd.

Charlotte flinched when a hand landed on her shoulder. "There's Christian over there," Amelia yelled in her ear over the music and pointed behind her. "I'm going to say hello. Do you want to come with me?" Charlotte shook her head. She didn't want to be the third wheel when Amelia talked to her crush. "Okay. If anything happens, you tell me. I put my phone on vibrate so you can call or text me, okay?" Charlotte nodded and smiled. The three friends always looked out for each other at parties. It had always been like that. Amelia squeezed Charlotte's shoulder and then disappeared into the crowd in the living room. Charlotte was left alone in the hallway. She decided to explore the party to avoid spending the whole evening standing there like a snuggle bug.

She met familiar faces everywhere. She said hello here and there but didn't stay to chat any longer. In the dining room, she met her friends Veronica and Melvina, who were each filling a plate with treats. Veronica was wearing a white, blood-splattered dress with a black bow around her chest and had a few blood splashes here and there. A little fake blood was also dripping down the corner of her mouth. Her long brown hair was combed back. Charlotte recognised her figure immediately. Her gaze wandered to Melvina. She had also pursued her passion for detailed costumes. Her skin was made up to look like it was already decaying. She was wearing yellow contact lenses, and her eyes were bloodshot. Her white shirt was splattered with red paint, and her brunette hair hung in wet strands on her face. "Hey, Mia, what's up?" Charlotte asked her friend Melvina, who was clearly dressed up as the aforementioned Mia from Evil Dead, with a grin. "Jennifer," she nodded at Veronica and laughed when the brunette's jaw dropped. "How?" she simply asked. Charlotte shrugged. "When it comes to horror characters, no one can fool me," she explained. "Okay, and who are you supposed to be?" asked Veronica. "I can't tell you," Charlotte replied, running her long, gloved fingers through her smooth black tips that peeked out from under the black hood. "At least give us a clue," Melvina begged, giving her puppy eyes. Well, as best as her scary makeup could manage. Charlotte shook her head determinedly. "Nice try, Mel. But you won't hear anything from me." Melvina pouted. "We'll get it out of you," she said determinedly. Charlotte laughed and reached past her friends to grab a plate and load it up. "Good luck with that."
