One day had passed since Izuku's doctor's appointment, and the news of him not having any powers and the midday sun beat down on the park, casting long shadows as Izuku approached his best friend: Katsuki Bakugo. He forced a smile, the memory of his doctor's appointment a dull ache in his chest.
Izuku: Hey Kacchan.
Bakugo: Oh hey Izuku, how are you?
Izuku: I'm ok, how about you?
Bakugo: I'm good, so what kind of quirk do you get; is it strong like mine? He opens his hand and lets out a few sparks
Izuku: Kachan; there is something that I want to tell you...
Before he could finish, Bakugo launched into a loud guffaw, the sound echoing across the playground.
Bakugo: What is it, Deku? Did you finally figure out your quirk is super-sniffling? You can smell out a hero interview a mile away, right or something?
Izuku jumped back a bit. It wasn't uncommon for Bakugo to tease him, but today felt different, a sharper edge to his usual playful taunts.
Izuku: No, actually, the doctor said... I'm quirkless.
Bakugo at first laughed at him until they saw that he was serious and now his laughter was replaced by a long, incredulous stare.
Bakugo: Quirkless? You gotta be kidding, Deku. There's no way...
Izuku: I am not joking, Kachan; the doctor said that they had run every test and it all came back negative.
Bakugo finally seemed to accept it, a slow smirk spreading across his face.
Bakugo: Well, that figures, Deku. All that hero analysis and you can't even muster a spark. Guess your dream of being a hero is officially toast.
Izuku's heart sank. Bakugo's words hit him like a physical blow, the dream he'd nurtured since he could walk feeling like it was slipping through his fingers.
Then, as days turned into weeks and weeks became months; Bakugo started to call Izuku his name and refer to him as Deku as a pun for Defenseless Izuku. Over time, the playing started to turn more violent and nobody was coming to help him. The other kids were either bullying him with Bakugo or just turned the other out of fear of Bakugo coming after them and the teachers did nothing to help either. His father then filed a divorce and said that he refused to raise a weak person like him, leaving Inko and Izuku on the verge of depression.
Izuku was at school just writing in his hero notebook until he saw Bakugo and other boys picking on a kid who could not defend himself. A wave of nausea washed over Izuku as he watched the scene unfold. It was a scene all too familiar - a smaller kid being cornered and harassed by a group of older boys led by a smirking Bakugo. The memory of his torment burned fresh in his mind, the sting of Bakugo's taunts still raw.
Clenching his fists, Izuku felt a spark ignite within him, a spark that wasn't fear, but defiance. He wouldn't stand by and watch someone else suffer the same fate.
With newfound determination, Izuku strode towards Bakugo. His heart hammered in his chest, but his voice rang clear.
Izuku: Kachan, that's enough! Don't you think you've picked on him enough?
