Prologue. I said I wasn't here, why don't you believe me?April, 2018.
"What the fuck did you three do."
For a while, it had been quiet. Rosette Usher had been sitting on the edge of Rafe Cameron's bed. She felt a little wobbly in her skin. She could not stop staring at Gage Knox across the room. He lent on the wall beside Rafe's door, like he was ready to escape at any given moment. Did he know something Rose did not?
They'd been sitting in Rafe's room for thirteen minutes, Gage was counting.
Rafe had been up here with them, a night in after a party down the block. But Rafe's phone had been blowing up and he raced down stairs without a word after a while.
Both Rose and Gage knew to stay put.
They both seem to know Rafe.
Rose could no longer stand this silent, so she went to speak. To say something obnoxious and flirty, because that's who she was—a girl who hated silence.
But then there was a scream interrupting the silence.
Gage ran out the room. It took Rosette a moment longer, she was a little tipsy.
Anywho—the voice who has spoken: It's said so disgustingly terrfied, it could make you vomit and wail for the rest of the night. You don't like to be scolded. He sounds so ugly. So very ugly.
He doesn't sound ugly quite often with you.
There's heavy blood rushing through his ears. His skin is hot and his palms are slick. He's not sure whether his stomach has caught up to what he's seeing. He can't seem to breathe right. "What did you guys do!" There isn't that much to look at in reality.
He didn't do this. He just got here. He wasn't capable of doing this. He couldn't do this. He just got here.
I just got out of the Porsche!
His head is fucking pounding. No. No. No. Nononononono. No.
No.
He's moving towards the still girl with her face shoved into the start of his homes marsh. It's so dark outside he can't see her body, but he knows it isn't in water. It's just laying, so still. So very. The moon has gone and highlighted her dark hair, it almost makes it look red. Or is that blood? The moon knows what has happened. The moon has to know he wasn't here for this. The moon knows.
