Rebekah stayed at the house for the remainder of the witch's time there. No one uttered a word about having seen Katherine or even knowing who she was much to Rebekah's chagrin.
Though, Luciana could tell that Katherine had been coming and going from how Athena handled herself. When she was gone for long periods of time, Athena was tense and snappy (specifically to Lexi, Rebekah, and Elena who had grown to be quite the menace) when Katherine wasn't around, and for others, she'd be relaxed and teasing when she had seen Katherine.
Ever since Luciana figured out they weren't together, she began trying to connect the dots of their relationship. They obviously had some codependency issues. With Katherine's panic about leaving and Athena's mood swings.
Lexi took the attitude Athena threw her in stride, careful not to overstimulate her and make things easier. Rebekah on the other hand smacked the older woman a couple of times, tired of her attitude which—fair. Athena always looked like a scolded puppy after.
The only person that Athena wasn't snippy with was her funnily enough. Luciana was free from the attitude and tense Athena Castillo that everyone else had. At least, a little bit. Athena would still be tense, but she wouldn't be rude or anything to her.
Luciana didn't mind. Athena was kind and very smart. She would teach Luciana a bunch of spells that the witch wouldn't have been able to even look at if her mother were still in charge—or if Micah and Elena got word. They would stay up late in Athena's study, Luciana going over spell after a spell with excitement while Athena searched.
"Why are you helping us?" Luciana asked after hours of silence. It was well into the morning, the sun should be rising in an hour or two.
Athena paused what she was doing and looked over at her. She had shaken off her coat long ago and stood in her trousers and shirt. She tilted her head a bit and looked past Luciana. The witch followed her gaze and found a painting.
Zeus sat at the center on his throne with Hera beside him on her own. The other ten Olympians sat in a U with their own thrones.
Luciana didn't know much about the Greek Gods, just that they did exist and that half-gods had been going on quests for millennia.
"Lady Hecate," Athena replied after a couple of moments of silence, "She wishes for me to find you all, and bring you somewhere safe. Your specific bloodline is a strong one—not the strongest, but strong. She did not wish to lose your gifts."
Luciana looked back at the woman in awe. "You've met Lady Hecate?" She'd heard of the goddess who had created magic. Who had gifted all of them with their powers and bloodlines.
Athena smiled a little and nodded. "My bloodline is... one of the most powerful there is to exist. The first-borns of my line are gifted with devastating power," Athena explained, taking a seat across from the woman who listened intently.
