Once we meet again

Chapter one

Shoyos POV:

The months past, January, February, March. The next thing I know , the third years are officially gone.. Now I am a second year, welcoming new underclassmen. Knowing we got so far in nationals with our solid team last year.. Makes me anxious of what this year has to come, anxious with excitement of course! I feel like I had been counting down the minutes in my final class period not even, THE SECONDS! Until volleyball practice! All those new faces, all the old ones as well! Wait no, not old ones but uhm.. YEAH! And of course I'm happy to see Kags or Kageyama! The 'king of the court' as they used to call him well to be honest, Tsukishima still calls him that to annoy the living heck out of him. He hated that nickname, but what's so bad about being the king of the court right? Sure it might mean something completely different but all you need is someone to change the meaning for you, and that person is ME to HIM of course. Kageyama is an amazing setter like the sets go WOOSH then they halt right in front of me perfectly! Well honestly everything about his playing style, athleticism.. His everything really is perfect and impressive.. I mean of course I hate to admit that, but it's true.

Man, I really need to step up my game to keep up with him! I was thankfully yanked out of my thoughts about Kageyama by that dismissal bell. I put my things away hurriedly and practically darted towards the door, this year is so going to be my year! Approaching gymnasium two after what has felt like forever, this time was different yet all the same at once. Leaping through that gym door once again, smelling that air that smelt like icy hot spray. But then I opened my eyes to see the one and only Tobio Kageyama doing his jump serve, this time he wasn't my opponent or an enemy, not even just a partner but my friend. But the jump served hadn't been just a jump serve.. IT WAS A FLOATER? Woah he improved a lot.

I guess I stood there starstrucked because I hadn't even realized a gush of wind passed me, then I heard the ball making contact with another. "That's your upper classmen back at work!" I heard a familiar voice say.. Had it been.. NOYA SAN!! "NOYAAAAA!" I shouted practically jumping up at him putting my hands out for high fives, and as Noya does he jumps as well giving me a high five that echoes the gym. "SHOYO, hey looks like you didn't gain much height did you?" He said, I pouted a bit before rolling my eyes. "Don't get too cocky now Noya, you barely gained a centimeter" I heard a voice from the doorway, I know that voice anywhere!! "Get off your high horse Tanaka." The new captain Ennoshita responded to Tanaka's comment.

My attention drifted away from our upperclassmen to Kageyama who was on the other side of the net. He had just been sitting there? I tilted my head a bit in confusion and I made my way over to that side of the net. We had still been waiting for some third years, second years and the new first years and it had still been fairly early for first practices. I slid down the wall sitting next to Kageyama, his head had been buried into his arms and a volleyball between his legs. "Kageyamaaa, it's the first practice.. Why are you so grumpy already" I asked, truly trying to lighten up the mood, "Go away Boke.." A mumble came from his lips, let's just say I had been confused. Why would he be upset on a day like this? "Kags.. Seriously, what's up?" He clicked his tongue before responding. "It's nothing Sho.." He began to get up and grab the volleyball he had in between his legs. I got up myself too, he began to walk off but I grabbed his shirt and tugged on it gently a bit holding him back. "What is it with the 3 word sentences? You're acting like I'm some sort of stranger." He let out an irritated groan before turning himself to me. As soon as he was going to say something, coach Ukai and Takeda joined us in the gym. WAIT COACH UKAI ENDED UP COMING BACK AGAIN?

"Lovebirds, over there. C'mon we don't have all day now.!!" Coach Ukai had shouted over to us, and we hurriedly made our way to the rest of the guys. Some of the new first years had been here, and they are pretty tall.. AH SEEMS LIKE TSUKISHIMA GOT TALLER TOO.. "Well.. It seems like we are missing some people, but that is fine. Today isn't really a practice day, more of I get to see what you can do. Let me introduce our captain Ennoshita and co-captain Tanaka, they will be leading the team most of the time as I am here to guide. So let's get into some rounds of kings of the court then you guys could get to whatever you guys do to get to know each other or whatever. Give me what you got, we have until 7pm" Coach Ukai had explained to what we know as a team as for right now. I looked over towards Kageyama once again, he seemed completely out of it and zoned out.. I couldn't help but wonder what thoughts had been going through his mind right now?
