Part One: A Love Built on Shadows

She sat by the window, watching the rain fall steadily against the glass. The soft drumming of the water was the only sound that filled the silent room, but her mind was louder. Her name was Alma, a woman whose life had been a series of fractures-each one deeper than the last. The kind of fractures that begin in childhood and, over time, deepen into scars. Growing up in a household of lies, manipulation, and constant chaos had left her afraid of trusting others, afraid of love. But she was trying, especially for him.

His name was Jaden, a man whose love had been her only anchor in a sea of doubt. From the beginning, he had been gentle with her broken pieces, promising to help her heal, to show her what love was supposed to feel like. Alma believed him, or at least she tried to. There was something about the way Jaden looked at her, as if he saw through her defences, into the parts of her she kept hidden. For a while, it was enough.

But no love is simple.

Behind Jaden's warm eyes was a secret-one he had hidden too well. He had promised Alma honesty, but he hadn't told her everything. There had been another woman before Alma. A past he thought was dead and buried, but that woman, Kira, had never truly let him go. Unbeknownst to Alma, Jaden was still caught in Kira's web, trapped between guilt and obligation. He was too afraid to lose Alma, but too weak to sever the toxic tie to Kira.

As the rain poured outside, Alma received a message that shattered the fragile world they had built. It was from Kira.

"I know he hasn't told you about me. But we're not done. He belongs to me."

Alma's heart stopped. Her worst fears were coming true-everything she had feared about love and trust was unravelling in real time. She confronted Jaden that night, the hurt and betrayal cutting through her voice like knives.

"Why didn't you tell me about her? All this time, you lied to me."

Jaden, caught off guard, tried to explain. He spoke of how Kira had manipulated him, how he had been trapped in her lies long before he met Alma, and how he didn't know how to escape without losing everything.

"I never wanted to hurt you," he whispered. "I didn't know how to tell you without breaking you."

But Alma was already broken, long before Jaden. This betrayal only brought the pieces to the surface again, each fragment a reminder of her past-the lies her parents told, the abuse that had left her wounded and distrustful. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think. The walls were closing in, and all she could feel was the familiar pain of abandonment.

She left that night, her world crumbling around her, with Jaden calling after her, his voice drowned by the storm. Alone in the rain, Alma found herself battling two traumas-the old one from her childhood and the fresh wound inflicted by the one person she thought she could trust.

But Jaden wasn't ready to give up. He knew he had failed her, but he wasn't like the people from her past. He wasn't going to let her face this storm alone. Determined to make things right, Jaden vowed to fight for her to help her heal, even if it meant confronting his own demons along the way.
