My eyes were fixated on the plasma television inside of Adym's office at Edin Entertainment's main headquarters. Nobody had heard from Ebel in days. It was as if he vanished like Delila. Police were still searching for her. With Ebel, we all believed he was with a friend and possibly hiding from family drama. Giza was the only one concerned. The sudden abandonment left her lonely and confused. She was crying on my line. That's how desperate she was for someone to hear her cries for help. I ignored them like everyone else.
"There we go" My father swiveled his chair in my direction. Lawyers, a photographer, and heads of the investment group who owned the other portion of E.E. were in the room to witness this pivotal moment in my career. I was donning an all-black suit like I was going to a funeral. All to look the part of my new role as CEO of Edin Entertainment. Making my way over, I grabbed the pen from him and bent down to sign the document that would seal the deal. The camera snapped a picture of the moment.
Once signed, the room erupted into applause. My new colleagues patted my shoulders and pulled me into welcoming hugs. The future was bright for Edin Entertainment, now that someone younger was placed in power. They were counting on me to draw in young talent, looking to leave the label's complicated history in the past. All the legacy artists were going to be forced into retirement. The only older artist they were planning to profit off of was Duvessa. Her music was still selling better than twenty year olds.
After an hour passed, they left me alone with my father. Seemingly, he was elated about the time alone. It gave him the chance to indulge in his guilty pleasures. He retrieved a bottle of whiskey and a golden box. The box contained every pill you could think of. I learned about it when I was getting familiar with my new office.
"Well, son, we did it" I slid my hands into the pockets of my slacks and listened intently. Adym poured the whiskey to the brim and emptied out three pills onto the desk. He started to fill another glass. I stopped him. "None for me. I'm trying to quit after that wild night on Hennessy" I faked a small laugh. He bought it, sitting the bottle back down.
Throwing the pills into his mouth, he swallowed them dryly. "Now that you're the head of the label, I'm going to ask you to do me one last favor" I raised a brow, anticipating hearing this favor. "Get rid of Egypt and Isis for me. Your mother is still on my ass about Egypt"
"Mm" I hummed out, nodding slightly. "Just between us, " I sat in front of the desk. "no judgment here. You're my father and I'm always going to protect you. You know that" I locked eyes with him. "You confided in me that you slept with Isis when she was twenty-two. I was confused when Ebel said you got her pregnant when she was seventeen. Did you?"
He took a seat behind the desk and sighed out, grabbing the drink. "You know how it is with these young bitches. You'll see now that you're in my position. They were always throwing it at me like they were grown-"
"So you did?" I cut him off. "You slept with her when she was underage?" He smirked slyly and took a sip of the whiskey. "I mean, she was grown enough to get busted in. You feel me?" He laughed and looked to me, expecting me to do the same. I obliged him, forcing laughter. "I feel you"
He drunk more of the drink and laid back into the chair lazily. "She's not the first" He confessed, eyelids getting heavy. My countenance switched, unable to maintain my act anymore. The malice was in my gaze as he was slipping in and out of consciousness. "I-I did that to the other girl. T-The big foreheaded one..."
"Shhh" I whispered softly, standing from my seat. "Just keep drinking. I think the pills might be stuck in your throat" He snickered and gulped the rest of it down.
Suddenly, he clutched the center of his chest. His eyes shot open, but he was paralyzed in his seat. Unable to move as the searing pain ripped through his chest, I hovered over him. "Do you remember what you said to me that day?"
"H-Heart-" He was trying to utter the word 'heartattack', but couldn't get it out. I was overjoyed to see him suffering so bad. "Do you?" I searched his protruding eyes. His entire face was red, every vein in his neck poked out. "I remember what you said. Drunk off Hennessy and all, I remember the exact words you said to me"
My face leaned close to his ear as he was gasping for his final breaths. "You asked me if I was my brother's keeper" I couldn't miss the grand finale. Pulling back to catch the life leave his eyes, I flashed a wide grin and proclaimed,
"Yes, I am"
