Faye's persistent words rang through me like siren as I was getting ready and looking myself head to toe in the full-length mirror of my room. "You're not seriously going to a party with Logan Bolster, right? Like okay, he seems sweet on the surface, but he's so not. Back me up here, Seth." Those were her words before I exited the coffee house and on my way to start dressing up. Seth was even worse, he didn't get as livid as Faye, but remained nonchalant as ever. "If she wants to do something, we can't stop her. I mean, isn't that what Cady Heron's life was all about?" It wasn't Seth if he wasn't quoting anyone from pop culture, looking back now he and I bonded over series and movies, only because he was the one invested enough in these things than the other friends within the circle.
The drive to the party—Jake's house—as Logan told me earlier, was quite far from my own house, by this point, I'd probably arrive sooner if I'd taken the bus rather than the confinement of my own car. Belting to the song that's playing while casually pounding over the steering wheel. Then the music was drowned out by the upbeat song blaring faintly in the background, a line of parked cars overcrowded the steep, rocky alleyway—evidence that I'd arrived.
Jake's house was among the twin houses along the suburb, with his front door left ajar, you could see through the modernized, cutesy little apartment that you'd probably find off of Pinterest. Through the front door, there was a big dining table then the kitchen counter on the left and stairway on the right. The living room was next, with its big flat-screen TV occupying on one side and fluffy couch on the other that one person already drowned themselves in, bloodshot eyes over the limelight of their phone. There were a few kids lying around on the porch as well earlier, jumping and monkeying around as if they had no care in the world.
Logan's wide grin flashed before me, it was hard to miss despite the throng of bodies that I'd yet to shove past. "Molly! Over here." He exclaimed. His enthusiasm coursed through my veins, my energy boost without having to stop by the punch bowl on the kitchen's counter and made my way over. Beside Logan, there were already others occupying the living area, aside from the bloodshot kid in the corner unbothered, Logan's peers from what I could remember.
"Hey, Logan." I fist-bumped Logan as he pulled me in that our thighs brushed against each other, but the guy next to him, Jake, scooted away so that I could occupy the empty space next to Logan.
Logan took a sip from his red cup, shouting over the deafening music playing on the TV behind him. "You made it." He mused, then clinked his cup when the other two of his friends neared their glasses together in front of him. "Just in time as well for our casual game of fun." He added.
The girl whose shiny blond hair was curled nicely at the bottom, exhaled a puff of candy-flavored smoke into the air from the vape hanging around her neck. "Yeah, we always play this game. Don't you know this game, Molly?" She raised her brows, looking boringly into my eyes.
Shrugging off, I pressed my lips together. "Well, whatever it is, I'm down." I said aloud, Logan offering his cup over to me that I took in hesitantly, then letting the watery liquid swim through my mouth all the way to my throat. There was barely a sting aftertaste, as some people would describe alcohol.
"Nellie, how about you go first, since you're closer to the remote." Logan instructed, motioning over the remote sandwiched between the blond girl named Nellie and the other brunette one whose body was a bit on the curvier side but her perfectly painted makeup and her curled bob hair somehow made her all the more cute.
"Alright," Nellie shifted slightly to grab the remote from under her and flicked through the channels as both Logan and Jake scooted away from blocking the TV. "So the way we play is if you fail to guess, you have to drink. Only then can we actually have fun." She explained.
