So, welcome to the first chapter of adulthood. I'm an unemployed girl who has reached the final destination of her engineering degree but is still clueless about what to do and how to do it in life, or whether I should do anything. Now, you might think, 'She's just a girl; why so much worry? Girls tend to get jobs easily, and they always have the backup option, "marriage." Maybe you can be right; options are there, and maybe at some point, this thought must have crossed every girl's mind: "If nothing works out, just get married," but is it really that easy?
Well, while you think about it, let me tell you what I think. I'm not alone in this. I have two friends whom I met in college. I could pen a novel about them, but for now, I'll dedicate a chapter to them later.
My friends and I thought the same thing: "If nothing else, we will get married." Sorry, I meant only me and the other one; the third one is different. Hmm, her thoughts are a bit different. You must be wondering what this second, or third thing is; there must be a name for it, right? Be patient; things will become clearer soon. Oh, where was I? Ah yes, "marriage as a backup plan."
We're a little family of three living in a hostel, but we have our own little space. I bet you're wondering why we have separate rooms. After all, we're friends, right? Oh, there's a lovely story behind that, which I'm sure you'll hear soon enough. After dinner, we take our night walks and catch up on the day's events. It's so nice to chat and gossip together! We talk about all the latest news on our floor, from who's broken up to who's planning to elope! (Oops, that's a secret!).
As we catch up, we often find ourselves reminiscing about the good old days when men worked and women managed the household. Sometimes, we even think about giving up the search for a job and instead marrying a successful businessman, potentially even helping out in his business. Sounds like a good plan, doesn't it? Haha. You might think that we girls just want to become gold diggers, enjoying life off our husband's money. But as they say, an idle mind is the devil's playground. Our minds are just as prone to conjuring up thoughts that vanish just as quickly as they arrive when we're unemployed.
We come from a middle-class family where we understand how important it is for women to work. We're not trying to offend anyone, it's just a thought.
We also know that it's not really fair to compare the old days to the present, is it? It was a different time! People thought differently then, and the world has changed so much since then. When it comes to marriage, it's sad to say that even today in our country there are some girls who see education as a way out, a way to avoid marriage and household responsibilities. We all want to live freely, whether we're boys or girls. That's why there is an age limit for marriage. There's so much to say on this subject, but I just shared my thoughts and those of my unemployed friends. Let's end this discussion about marriage and when to get it. Ultimately, it's up to each person to decide what's right for them.
And so, I ask myself: what's next? Will I find my dream job, start my own business, or take a completely different path? The uncertainty is daunting, but it's also exhilarating. Join me on this journey as I explore, discover, and grow.
