𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐀 𝐃𝐎vecote doodled in her workbook as she waited for legal studies class to start.

A sudden presence entering the room caused her to glance at the door to see Kyla Zaylie entering the partially empty room.

She walked over and sat down next to Natasha.

Natasha kept her eyes on her classmate, "Hey Ky," she greeted.

"Hey Ash," Kyla greeted back.

"You're here early today," Natasha commented.

"Mhm," Kyla agreed. "I'm a changed girl. Watch, imma have an academic comeback."

"And you woke up even earlier to do your hair?" Natasha assumed as she looked the girls wavy hair.

It was in its natural wavy state with a bandana tied around her head.

Natasha had to admit, Kyla looked good.

"Mhm, like i said, changed girl."

Kyla winked at her.

"Doubt that'll last," Natasha dropped her pencil and reached up and twirled a piece of Kyla's hair around her finger.

Kyla kept her eyes on the younger girl.

Suddenly, Matthew Lard rocked up, "hey, hey, hey!"

The new, obnoxious presence in the classroom caused Natasha to drop her hand from the curly hair, and both girls to look at the boy.

He went over to their table and pulled up a chair and sat on the chair with the back of the chair towards his chest and his legs on either side.

"What up Natty?" he greeted, ignoring the girl sat to Natasha's right.

Natasha internally cringed at the nickname. "Hi," was her rather dry response.

"That's all i get?" Matthew asked, pretending to be hurt. "Not even a "hi, Matty!"?"

Natasha, once again, internally cringed at the rhyming nicknames Matthew had made up.

And the terrible flirting. That was just as cringe and painful too, if not worse.

Before Natasha could respond, Kyla spoke up.

"Your seats over there, dipshit," she gestured towards the other side of the classroom, cutting her eyes at the younger boy.

Matthew rolled his eyes, "yeah so? I can't be anywhere else?"

"No," was Kyla's quick response, even though the question was rhetorical.

"Come on, i just wanna talk to my girl Natty," he turned his attention back to Natasha.

Natasha spoke up, making a face, "Matt, don't call me that."

"Hey, that's rhymed!" Matthew made and pointed finger guns at the girl. "But, hey, what's wrong with the nicknames?!"

Kyla couldn't help but laugh, "what isn't wrong with them?"

"Man, y'all are just haters," Matthew kissed his teeth as he seemingly began to get up.

By then, the classroom had filled up with students filing in, along with the teacher, Ms Kendrick.

"Lard, back to your seat," she called out to the boy.

"Yeah, yeah, i'm getting up, jeez," Matthew sighed dramatically as he got up from the seat and went to go to his own.

"Put the chair back," Ms Kendrick stopped him.

Matthew reluctantly did as he was told and then went to his own seat.

Natasha looked relieved once he had finally gone.

"Why don't you just tell him to fuck off?" Kyla asked as she noticed.

"I don't wanna be unnecessarily mean," Natasha glanced at her.

"Nobody cares about his feelings Ash, he'll get over it."

Natasha shrugged.

"Ok kids, settle down," Ms Kendrick's voice cut through Natasha's thoughts, "for the main assignment that, may i remind you, accounts for 60% of your final grade, you will be doing a project with a partner," groans ran through the classroom as students were reminded, "you will be researching a country and it's laws and putting together a presentation and essay. This is very important, please take it seriously," she stared pointedly at a few students.

Natasha rested her head on her hand as she listened, unaware of the staring gaze from her classmate.

Tom Ryder raised his hand, but talked anyways without being called on, "do we get to pick partners?"

"I was just getting to that, Ryder. Patience, please," she scolded. "Your partners will be your desk partners, so the person you sit next to."

A couple groans could be heard as some clearly wanted to choose.

"Oh, i can totally pick then if you guys don't like that, doesn't that sound better?" Ms Kendrick asked sarcastically.

The few annoyed people quickly shut up.

Ms Kendrick's choices were always questionable.

"You will also need to work on this outside of school hours, so arrange that with your partner," she informed.

Natasha nodded along.

She didn't mind working with Kyla Zaylie.

In fact, she was quite glad she was. Even if she didn't quite know it yet.
