Chapter 1

Barden University

Beca's POV

"There you go miss," the driver told me. I got out of the cab and took my luggage out. Thankfully I only had a suitcase and my computer bag with all my DJ tools.

A perky blonde girl came up to me and started talking to me. I ignored her completely and looked around.

Suddenly, a car pulled up next to me and the boy in the back seat started playing an air guitar. I stared at him oddly and before he could introduce himself, the car drove away.

I looked back at the blonde just as she turned to me.

"And this is your BU rape whistle. Don't blow it unless it's actually happening," she warned.

I stuck it in my mouth and walked away towards my dorm. Apparently I was sharing a room with someone named Fat Amy.

Fat Amy. Was that her real name? What kind of parents name their kid 'Fat Amy'? Poor girl must've had a terrible childhood. I walked to my dorm and knocked the door. In a second, a girl that was a little on the chubby side stood at the doorway in a blue shirt and black pencil skirt.

"Hi! You must be Beca!" she said in a very strong Australian accent. "I'm Fat Amy."

"Hi Fat Amy," I said cautiously. "Ya, I'm Beca."

"Come in and get set up. We can go to the activities fair after we're done unpacking."

"Uh...sure," I said. I wasn't much of a talker. I usually stayed away from the crowds and never had many friends. In other words, I was very unsocial.

I unpacked my DJ stuff and put my clothes in the small closet.

"Oh cool, you like DJ or something?" she asked.

"Ya, can I just ask you to not touch this stuff, please? It's basically my life." I said.

"Oh yea, sure that's cool."

"...hide all your wine coolers!"

My dad. Only my dad could have said that. He tries to make jokes but they are not funny...at all.

"Hey Bec!" he said.

I really wasn't listening to what he was saying.

"So how's that step-monster?"

He sighed and continued, "She's doing well y-"

"No dad, I don't really care. I just wanted to say 'step-monster'." I cut him off.

I don't listen to the rest of the crap he says and use the excuse to tag along with Amy when she says she is going to the activities fair.

"I'm going to the activities fair with my good friend Fat Amy." I say and leave.

When we get there she starts talking like nothing happened in the dorm.

"So what are you looking for?" she asked me.

"Definitely something with being a DJ." I answered. I saw a sign that said "Barden DJ's" and Amy followed.

"Shalom!" they said when we reached the stall.

"That's not a real word but keep trying." Amy yelled. The booth was actually for deaf Jewish people. I sighed.

"Not a lot of Jewish people in Australia?"

She answered saying that she was in a group and it was full on Jew. I offered her a small smile.

"I'm going to go look around, okay?" I told her.
