Summer

I woke up to the smell of something cooking downstairs.

I was a bit confused at my whereabouts for a second, until I realized I was home for the summer.

Wow. The school year really went by fast, didn't it?

I hopped out of bed and headed downstairs to see what was cooking.

I walked into the kitchen and saw a pleasant surprise waiting for me.

My dad was home cooking breakfast!

"Dad!"

He turned around and smiled.

"Hey kiddo,"

"What're you doing here?" I asked hugging him around the waist.

"Well work finally gave me a few days off."

"Yay!"

I then saw my mum come through the front door, collecting the mail. It was a weekend, so she was able to be home.

"Oh, you're up sweetie! I see you saw your father here," Mum commented upon seeing me.

I nodded as mum went and kissed dad on the cheek.

"Why don't you go get changed so we can eat breakfast?" Mum suggested.

"Ok"

I headed back upstairs to my room. I changed out of my pajamas and put on a t shirt and jeans.

I then went to the bathroom and brushed my hair (can always style it if you want but don't have to) and teeth.

I then went back downstairs and Dad seemed to be done making breakfast.

I sat at the table and he brought me and Mum some eggs, sausage, and bacon, with a glass of milk.

"So N/n, why don't you tell your father how school's been  going."

I paused as I was about to take a bite. What was I supposed to say, that I have been working with my friends to stop an evil teacher Dumbledore hired from getting a stone for You-Know-Who, so he can be immortal, all while doing dangerous life threatening tasks just to do so?

"Um it's been good, learning a lot, making friends. The usual." I said. I thought I pulled that off pretty well.

"That's good." Dad nodded.

Whew. Thank Merlin he wasn't suspicious.

"So, Mum, Dad, how's work been?"

They also paused.

"Well, pretty tough, people have been getting hurt or worse all around." Mom answered.

Mom was an Auror, meaning she defended against criminals and put them under arrest, but those who were not caught, like Voldemort, were hurting and killing others. Training for an Auror is very difficult. Because of its dangers, Mum is glad I'm not allowed to be around that until I'm older, but little did she know..

Dad was an archivist, which meant he maintained records. Not as hard or dangerous, but seemed to require his attention often.

"It's alright. Hate being away from the family for so long." Dad said.

We continued to talk about similar things until we were all done with our breakfast.

Mum grabbed our plates and did the dishes.

The rest of the day was pretty simple.

After a few days, dad had to go back to work, and it was just me and Mum.
