Won't you kiss me on the mouth and love me like a sailor?

Terra loved her. Despite the secrets that cloaked her, she was so loving. She wasn't the most dependable, but when she was there, she was perfect.

After meeting a few times, they exchanged phone numbers, hers obviously being a burner. Terra gave her her real number, along with her address, in the hope she would visit.

While she didn't believe true love was real (her parents had shown her that at a young age), she didn't know how else to describe what she felt with her. She made Terra feel alive, like she didn't need the cameras to be happy. She made her feel like she was worth something without her abilities. She made her feel like she was enough.

She'll never forget the day she learned her name. She had just turned twenty-five and her parents had forgotten about her birthday. She texted her, hoping she would alleviate the pain, something she was always so good at. She had shown up at Terra's house in all her superhero glory, whisking her away with the promise of a birthday gift and a view.

They were sitting on the ledge of a skyscraper, shoulder to shoulder, feet knocking into each others. They weren't speaking; words felt too heavy for the moment. Like if something was said, the stillness of their predicament would rip like paper.

She spoke one word, a single thought, one Terra would forever hold close to her heart.

"Agnes."

Terra blinked, momentarily confused at the fact that the world and peaceful environment were still intact.

"What?"

She turned towards Terra, her face mere inches away. If Terra wanted, she could have pressed forward and connected their lips. The thought was terrifyingly tempting, but Terra wanted to know what she meant with her disconnected word.

"My name is Agnes." Her words dripped out of her mouth like honey, Terra greedily clinging onto each one. She was gobsmacked. The fact that she was entrusted with this information made Terra's stomach burst with butterflies.

"Y-you're telling me your name?"

"Consider it your birthday gift," she said with a bashful grin. "I would have gotten you something better, but I'm kind of broke right n-"

She was cut off by a bone crushing hug, tears leaking from Terra's eyes. Her voice came out as a broken whisper.

"Thank you."

That day she had felt like a vase that had been chucked at the wall in anger with no regard for the consequences. But she made her better. There, on that roof, she carefully glued every broken piece of porcelain back in place. She made sure every fragment was accounted for.

They parted with the promise to call whenever things got bad.

A year after Terra turned thirty, she disappeared. It had been months since the media heard from her, since she had been spotted. It had been months she hadn't talked to Terra.

She bit nervously on her lip, pleading to a god, any god, that this call would be answered. She clutched the flip phone with one hand and tangled the other in golden locks.

Once again, the call went straight to voicemail.

"Agh!" she screamed, raising the phone away from her face. She cocked her arm back, but before the phone could leave her hands, a voice called her name.
