The rain poured down continuously, hammering against the ground as if it was determined to wash everything away, destroy everything that remained. It had been like this for two days, a harsh, cold unforgiving storm.
Abhi stepped out of his car, clutching the sealed file to his chest, his white shirt immediately soaked wet by the rain. He hurriedly wore his blazer, trying to protect the file from the rain, but it did little to help.
His team ran ahead, arms full of important documents, running hurriedly toward the courthouse, shouting directions to one another. He followed, eyes set on the building. The courthouse was bustling, filled with people in the narrow corridor outside the courtroom, desperately seeking refuge from the storm.
The fog and the thick blanket of rain blurred everything, transforming the surroundings into a scene of muted blue and grey.
His heartbeat stopped for a moment, as bile rose to his throat when he saw a familiar figure through the blanket of rain and fog a blurred figure leaning against the pillar in the corridor of courthouse. He stopped dead in his track, his steps frozen with shock how come she was here.
She was there, his wife wearing a light blue suit. her suit somehow untouched by the rain. She looked ethereal, almost unreal, a vision cut out from the past and placed before him. His heart slammed in his chest, each beat a dull ache, as he came to a dead stop in the middle of the pouring rain. It felt like the world had suddenly sharpened, all the noise fading into a hollow silence.
She leaned against the pillar, one hand resting gently on her stomach.
His breath caught as his gaze lingered on her hand, her fingers resting protectively over her belly. A harsh wave of emotions flooded his mind, and the ground beneath him felt like it was slipping away.
Was this real? Was she...was she carrying a child?
Was it his?
He felt a tremor roll through him as his eyes locked on her, his mind going through in a frantic attempt to grasp this reality. The rain blurred his vision, or maybe it was something deeper, something breaking inside him that made everything feel fractured and distant. His own child-how could he have missed this? How could he have been so completely, devastatingly unknown?
His own child, a piece of him, growing inside her-and he hadn't even known. A bitter ache filled his chest, twisting tighter with each passing second. He hadn't been there for her, for them, in the way he should have been. She had gone through this alone, every uncertain moment, every flicker of doubt or fear-he hadn't been there to share it, to ease it. And now, seeing her here, her hand protective over the life they'd unknowingly created, he wondered if he even had the right to hope.
All the sacrifices he'd made for the case, the sleepless nights, the hollow victories-it all felt meaningless compared to this. What was justice, what was any of it worth, if it had cost him his family? His pulse quickened as the reality set in: she had carried this burden alone, with no one to turn to, and he'd been oblivious.
And as he stood there, frozen in the downpour, he couldn't tell if he was more horrified by the realization or by the fear that it might be too late to fix any of it.
He wanted to move, to close the distance between them, to go to her and ask if there was still something left of them-if that child was the small piece of hope he so desperately needed, a reason to believe they could have a future. He clutched the file in his hand tighter, feeling his resolve build with each shaky breath.
But before he could take a step, another figure emerged from the fog-a man, dressed in a brown suit. He came up behind her, resting a hand on her shoulder with a gentle familiarity that sent a cold shock through Abhi's veins. She turned toward the man, a soft, serene smile gracing her lips, and leaned into his touch, letting her hand fall from her belly to rest against his.
Abhi felt his heart shatter, the pieces scattering into the rain around him. He stood there, frozen, his entire world crumbling at his feet. That smile, the warmth in her eyes, the ease with which she looked at this man-it was everything he'd longed for, everything he'd dreamed of. And it was gone.
Had she moved on?
Was their marriage truly over? Was everything really destroyed. She had every right to seek happiness; after all, their relationship had started on a foundation of a evil lie-his deceit, his manipulation. He had used her, and for that, he could never forgive himself. But despite the betrayal, his love for her had always been genuine. It had never been a lie.
She had all the right to move on but they were never divorced, still a married couple.
Yet now, seeing her with another man, he felt as if the ground had been ripped from beneath him.
_________________________Abhi sat in the front row of the courtroom, his fists clenched tightly enough to turn his knuckles white. As his ayes the file containing her name, adress, her occupation layed in front of both the parties as she stood in the witness box.
He had been prepared for this day, He had thought she was here merely to observe the proceedings, to see devraj getting punished from a safe distance, not to step into the spotlight as a prime witness against Devraj. His heart raced, anger and fear running through his veins.
His blood boiled as he turned to look at the chief, the man who had assured him that she would be kept safe, that her identity would remain hidden. Abhi had poured months of hard work into ensuring her protection, into ensuring that her identity would be hidden, her adress would be hidden, so that she could live a peaceful and safe life away frim everyone, doing everything in his power to shield her from the vengeful grasp of Devraj's criminal network around the world who were fuming for revenge.
How could this have happened? How could his chief allow her to walk into this public arena, fully exposed, without a second thought? It was a scenehe couldn't comprehend, and the anger surged within him like a storm ready to break.
His gaze snapped back to her as she stood before the judge, unwavering and resolute.
She looked directly into Devraj's eyes, and Each word she spoke was a dagger aimed at the man who had tormented her, telling the details of their encounter with an unsettling calm. Abhi's breath hitched as he watched her challenge Devraj with her gaze, as if daring him to retaliate. What was she thinking? Didn't she understand the danger she was putting herself in? Devraj connection were ready for a ruthless revenge, and they would not hesitate to seek revenge on anyone who dared to cross him.
The very foundation he had built to safeguard her was crumbling right before his eyes, and he could do nothing but watch. How could he protect her now? They had put her again at the mercy of a man who would stop at nothing to make her regret.
The courtroom fell silent as she concluded her testimony, and Abhi's heart raced in his chest. He had to act. He had to find a way to protect her, to pull her from this nightmare before it was too late.
He ran hand through his hair as he looked back at the chief, frustration bubbling up inside him. How could he have let this happen? This wasn't just carelessness; it was negligence of the highest order. Abhi had trusted him to keep her safe, to shield her from the monster they were trying to bring down.
She was strong-stronger than he had ever given her credit for. But strength alone wouldn't shield her from the darkness that loomed just beyond the courtroom doors.
"Your Honor," she said, her voice unwavering, "I want the truth to be known."
And with those words, she sealed her fate, and he knew he had to do everything in his power to ensure she came out of this alive and safe.
