Kirti began her story about her ex-best friend, Prithvi.
Flashback
It was the night of the much-anticipated camp, an event everyone had been buzzing about for weeks. Buses rolled in one by one, packed with students chattering excitedly, their breath visible in the cold December air. Kirti hopped off with her suitcase, joining her group of friends, her heart racing with anticipation.
Once they were assigned rooms, Kirti and her best friend, Aratrika — or "Aru" — headed to Room 302 on the third floor. They tossed their bags onto the beds, already laughing, knowing that sleep would be the last thing on their minds tonight.
After changing into casual clothes, they made their way to the lunch hall. The air smelled of tandoori roti, paneer masala, and chole. Kirti’s group — Lohitaksh, Astha, Aru, and Sahu — ate quickly, unable to contain their excitement for the afternoon's games and dancing.
Laughter and music filled the hours as they played football, danced, and cracked jokes. By the time 4 p.m. rolled around, they grabbed snacks and hot tea, huddling together, chatting and giggling beneath the fading winter sun. Soon, it was time to get ready for the highlight of the night — the DJ party.
Kirti slipped into a sleek white floral bodycon dress, the unique petal-shaped shoulder adding a touch of elegance, while a black woolen top helped fend off the cold. Aru and Astha opted for casual jeans and tops. As they waited for the party to begin, Sahu introduced a new face. “This is Prithvi,” he said casually.
Kirti had never met Prithvi before, but it seemed like everyone else knew him. He was tall, confident, and had an easy charm about him. They hit the dance floor, and that’s when their paths crossed for the first time.
Flashback Ends
"Wow, Kirti, sounds like a K-drama!" Devika teased with a grin.
Kirti chuckled softly. "Yeah, maybe. But we should head to class; the bell’s already rung."
Devika headed off to her History class, while Kirti, who had chosen Economics, walked towards the Commerce wing, knowing she'd run into Prithvi. Sure enough, there he was — sitting next to Prash, whispering and glancing her way. The tension between them was palpable.
After class, Prithvi intercepted her in the hallway, his expression unreadable. “Running away, are we?” he taunted.
Kirti didn’t flinch. “You’re not important enough for that,” she shot back, her voice cold as ice as she walked past him.
Prithvi’s voice followed her down the corridor, filled with disdain. “People like you don’t belong in my world!”
Without turning around, Kirti raised her hand in a defiant gesture and kept walking, her heart pounding but her face composed.
Back in class with Devika, they discovered the next period was free.
“Perfect,” Devika nudged her. “Now, tell me the rest.”
Kirti sighed deeply, bracing herself as the memories came flooding back.
