The screams wouldn't stop.

For the past 450 years, Helaena Cullen constantly heard the screaming of her twin children, Vaelon and Vaella.

Her poor son and daughter were taken from the world too soon, barely 4 years old. That same day marked the day Helaena would forever be frozen at 17 years old.

"Lae," Rosalie called out softly, "Esme wants us to make lunch for the human."

"She's going to meet them." The platinum blonde said absently as she stared out into the forest

The younger vampire frowned in confused at her sister's words. She often spoke in cryptic riddles due to her ability.

Though, Rosalie and the rest of the Cullen clan knew that the time Helaena spent with her mate helped contribute to her fragile state.

That vile man never let her rest.

She glanced around her sister's room.

It was perhaps the saddest room in the Cullen house. Over the course of her vampire life, Helaena collected things she thought her children would like, little figurines of knights or princesses or stuffed animals and more. It was also filled with paintings of the twins so she never forgot their faces.

The room was a shrine for children that would never—that could never— be held in their mother's arms again.

Every once in a while, the sad girl would do a painting of her and her mate.

Though she hated him, she was tied to him. Inevitably drawn to him until she remembered everything that he had done to her.

Helaena turned, "I don't want to meet her." She stated

"Neither do I." Rosalie sighed, "But Carlisle and Esme said we have to."

The vampire with precognitive dreams frowned, "She's a danger."

She turned to look at a pairing of her children, "What if she hurts them?" She asked softly, reaching out to trace Vaelon and Vaella's sweet little faces

Rosalie came up behind her sister and wrapped her in a backwards hug and leaned her chin on the Helaena's shoulder, "They were beautiful. What were they like?" She asked

Helaena continued to trace her children's faces, "I was wedded to Willem when I was 13. The twins came barely a year later. Vaelon was the oldest by seven and a half minutes." She said, "They were quiet, Vaella especially. Willem used to say she was mute but she wasn't. Vaelon liked swords and watching the older boys. He used to try to intimate them. Vaella liked animals and helping me in the garden. They didn't like to be apart, even for a moment. They walked hand in hand, shared a room." She finished

"They sound lovely." The teen from New York compliment

"They were." She agreed, "They were my everything."

The two sisters were silent, both lost in their thoughts. Though they had the same thought.

Why did Helaena's mate have to be the one who slaughtered her children?

It was something she thought about often. Her mate-the one who was supposed to love her, who wasn't supposed to be able to hurt her- hurt her in the worst way possible.

Slaughtering her children as she was forced to watch and then forcibly changed her.

Even worse was when she had woken up after 3 painful days, he presented her with Vaelon and Vaella's little bodies that had begun to bloat and swell.
